A View of Philly Sports

What a great time it is to be a sports fan in Philadelphia. I am 3,000 miles away in Arizona and spent some time channel surfing over the weekend and this is what I saw?. The national media and many NBA experts believe that the Sixers stole Elton Brand and now have a difference maker in the NBA Eastern Conference. I agree. I love the way he plays the post and he will make the other young Sixers players much better. He makes them instant contenders. Although they had a tough day yesterday against the Diamondbacks, the Phillies are in first place approaching the All Star break. They have one of the most talented lineups in the game and Ryan Howard, Jimmy Rollins, Chase Utley and Pat Burrell haven't even played their best baseball yet. Brad Lidge has been lights out as a closer. If they get some more quality starts from the pitching staff they can put some distance between themselves and the rest of the division. Philadelphia's Vai Sikahema, a former Eagle, knocked out former baseball player, Jose Canseco, in a celebrity boxing match. Vai gave away about 6 inches and 40-50 pounds to Jose but knocked out the bigger man in the 1st round. He proved that no matter how big and strong you look, you can't measure the heart on someone from Philly. In a contest that placed the winner in the ArenaBowl Championship Game, the Soul annihilated the Cleveland Gladiators, 70-35. If they play that well next week they will be able to set the route for the "Championship Parade in Philadelphia" in case there has been some changes in the past 25 years! With the promise shown by the Phillies, Sixers, Flyers, and yes, the Eagles, hopefully that route will start getting used more often. Speaking of the Eagles, fans might be happy to know that I'm in Arizona working out with Brian Dawkins. Next week some other players will come out and we'll work together for a few days before training camp opens. I'm feeling great, the shoulder is fine, and I can't wait to get started this season.

  This is it, it's do or die time for Donavon and Andy. If they don't win on Thanksgiving their not gong to get another chance. Being a homer it's hard for me to root for a loss, but I think it's the only way things will change. I know I'm not getting what I want for Christmas (a play-off spot) but maybe my new years wish (a new Coach & Quarterback) will come true. I'm sure I'm not the only one with this wish.

Thanks for the thoughtful post, Donovan. With you and Dawk leading our team that parade will come next February! Please always remember there were many of us Philly fans that were cheering your selection on draft night (unfortunately we didn't have tickets to be there in person;) And there are even more Philly fans now that believe in you, want to see you lead us to that championship and retire as a Philly legend. Unfortunately the protagonist minority voice always is the loudest in today's world, but they are just that, a minority. Please keep fighting toward our goal. nice write up, good to see you keepin tabs back in Philly but rockin it out in the desert. U and Bdawk are our teams leaders and I know you're both so very hungry to win one for yourselves and for this great city of ours. thanks for the Philly Soul comment, they are one great team that gets overlooked a lot or overshadowed.
U might have no choice but to hear critics but I promise you that there is no lack of support for you and our Eagles, I am as excited as ever for this season. I expect you will have a hell of a lot of Def help and your role on Off can be less "go deep" and more relaxed. I can't wait for the season to start. I'm siked about the defense and I like hearing Donovan talking positive. If he is healty and the recievers do their job, He's the best QB in the leage. If this offense strats moving forward there will be no stoping us. GO EAGLES!!!!!!

Funny you mentioned the Soul... I was at the Bon Jovi MLB All-Star Concert in NYC Saturday and he had a shoutout to the Soul.

Donovan, I hope some of the WRs and TEs will show up in Arizona with you. Especially Jackson, Brown, and Celek. I think LJ will be gone next year, so Celek will have to step up and be the man. LJ must be upset with how his contract has not been extended yet, but I don't blame the Eagles since he's been injury-prone the last few years. Reggie Brown needs to break out this year and Jackson is a playmaker... get the ball in his hands! GO birds, I can't wait to see you guys in training camp.

Going into this season there are no question marks. There are significant strengths in each part of the defense, offense and special teams. This is going to be a great season!

I remember Vai beating up the Giants goalpost after retunring one all the way! not sure why, but talk about his fight is getting crazy airtime her on WIP and ESPN radio. Still glad to hear he got a first round knockout.

Think maybe Elton Brand's signing is enough to make you change loyalty from Da' Bulls? Seriously - Sixers are now a force to be reckoned with in the East.

Good to hear your shoulder is fine. Every NFL fan knows how overall team health is important for getting to the big game. We, here in Philly, know you are the QB on the roster who gives us the biggest chance to get that deep in the playoffs. Good luck in the upcoming year.

Side note - what do you think of the Packers stance with Favre? Shouldn't they just release him to be a potential starter elsewhere, rather than insist on paying him megabucks to be a backup? Their logic just seems really flawed to me. Unless they want something in return via trade, I just don't get their position with him.

This is the Eagles year. Donovan is 100% and fully recovered from that acl injury. Even though we couldnt land the dominant number one reciever there still is reason to be optimistic. The last four games of last year Donovan looked like the old DMac. He was scrambling, completing passes, and made plays. I think Donovan is capable of winning the Mvp this year if he stays healthy. Plus our offense has to be one of the fastest offenses in the league. THink of the speed. Westbrook, Curtis, Booker, o yea and that really quick kid we drafted Desean Jackson. Imagine all of these players on the field at the same time. It would be a disaster for defenses to line up against. And for all you Donovan haters out there. I have two words for you. YOUR STUPID. This guy is without a doubt is the best quarterback in the history of this franchise. If you argue this go look at the numbers. Think this is the same quarterback who took us to three nfc championship games with no other play makers on offense. People say he choked, at least we had a chance to choke, i'll take those three Nfc championship looses any day of the week vs rooting for team to get the number one pick because they suck so bad. I just hope Donovan doesnt get run out of town because he never won the big game. Closing staments Donovan your the man for this franchise, just keep smiling and proving all those haters wrong. FLY EAGLES FLY.

This is going to be a big year for you. I know that the shoulder will be fine, it's the ACL's non-factor that everyone should be aware of. I had the same surgery, replacement, and was back playing rollerhockey in 5 months but certainly not 100%. It wasn't until about 18 months that I've totally forgotten about it and continue to play harder than ever. So hopefully now you'll be at that point where not only are you 100% but have forgotten completely about it.
