Checklist: Start fast? Yes

I was excited about yesterday's win. Anytime you can get out in front early and stay on top you have to be happy. I said it before, we need to start fast and finish strong and yesterday we did that. What I liked best was that we were able to stay aggressive, convert on 3rd downs, and have success in the Red Zone. We worked hard on those things as a team and it paid off. What bothered me was that when we started with good field position, we weren't able to take better advantage of it. Last season we struggled to get good starting position on offense. Yesterday, we were given a few opportunities by the special teams who had a great day. On those possessions that we started off with a short field, we had just one TD and when DeSean Jackson put us at the 10 with a great punt return, we added just a field goal. Fortunately it didn't hurt us yesterday but we have to get better at that. I have to give props to my O-line - Tra, Todd, Jamal, Shawn and Jon. They did an outstanding job of providing protection and giving me time to get the ball out. You might think that I only get excited about offense. That's not true. All three phases played well. The defense forced the Rams to punt on 10 of 11 drives, including seven 3-and-outs. I don't remember the Rams converting on any 3rd downs. Our coverage units put the Rams in poor position all day and conversely our return units provided us with a few good chances. Overall, a lot of guys played well. Some of the guys that have been around and some getting their first taste real here - - I'll include Asante Samuel and Stewart Bradley with the rookies DeSean and Quintin Demps. We started fast yesterday, see need to continue building so that we can finish strong.

Yeah mcnabb...we will see how good you guys really are when you don't play a team that i think USC could have beaten c'mon i don't believe one minute of the hype you guys win a few games at the beginning of every year but all you really are is the Bills of the 2000's. You get to a few NFC chamionships and one Superbowl and you choke the only good thing that you had going for you, you got rid of, and now he is gonna run free all over Asante Samuel, cause you personally know he can. If im not mistaken it was you that threw all those passes to him, Asante is a good corner but he cant cover the big receivers, remember the superbowl last year. Good luck with Dallas this week and hopefully you will play a whole season this year cause it really is a shame that they keep paying you all that money for 5 or 6 games a year

Easily the most exciting opening game, to me, since your career began with the Eagles. I think the true barometer will be next week, at Dallas, and win or lose i'd like to see your comments again on how you think the Eagles played.

Well Its funny cuz at the Towards the End of the Game they Announced that Mcnabb is Officially The Number 1 QB in League History to Have the Least INTs to TD Ratio in the NFL... That Says Alot an that was one game.... Plus Dallas Gotta Remember Kevin Curtis aint playing an Reggie Brown is Questionable? So those are the players the Eagles Were expected to play now they gotta scheme for these other players that they really havent played against.... Now we Got our TE LJ Smith an Schobel and Celek i think it is going to be crucial to have Big targets in this Game as well as hank Baskett I swear if Baskett gets another 90 yrd TD throw to him imma Scream LOL.... my point is that the cowgirls can prepare and prepare but our offense is going to be a bit different than last yr.... Healthy everyone Dallas still got a suspect Secondary so dont be surprised if Mcnabb goes to the Air Early.... an Kills them with the Run Later..... Cuz Mcnabb kept throwing the ball and everyone in the Rams Defense forgot about Westbrook and what did he do he scored twice and almost had a 100 yrd game.... Cowboys better expect a tougher battle for there offense against a young strong Defense that the Eagles Got... I seriously think Samuels and Lito Were just warming up for an INTs Fest in Dallas.... especialy Lito that loves to INT the Cowboys.....

Good points, Five. Being able to take advantage of field position, putting the other team away - two critical aspects which will take your team deep into the playoffs - or not. Watching teams get off to a great start and then coasting in the 2nd half doesn't win championships.

Glad also that the "fans" who have hammered you over the last two years weren't heard from on Monday. How they refuse to see how lucky we are to have one of the best in the business right here in Philadelphia stuns me especially considering how management has given you half a tool box to go to work with. How they could trade away first round picks two years in a row and give up the time it takes to develop receivers yet still expect you to compensate for receivers that wouldn't make the cut on most other teams also amazes me, yet they do and so do you.

Side note - I've searched high and low for a good picture of Sheldon Brown's hit on Jackson - with his helmet flying off - to use as a desktop background. Only one I found was on philly.com, but it was too small (when I stretched it out to fit my screen you can see the individual pixels.)

Anybody find one out there? All I can come up with are videos (which I can't view at work anyway.)

wow. Donovan sounds like you are very concentrated at being perfect this season..... so far you guys have been great. I like the slight criticism about short field scoring oppurtunities like you said, it did not hurt you this week but next week every play will be a potential game decider so we should aim for absolute perfection... just to be safe.
It has been great savoring this victory after months of no football.... thank you sir.

Great game Donoval. You and the team looked great and I don't mean to rain on your bubble but it was against the Rams, who looked flat out horrible and are looking at another winless first half and the No. 1 overall pick if the Chiefs and Dolphins can get a few wins. As for everybody begging Donovan to beat the Eagles, I think he's got his own reasons: there's still a score to settle with TO and Donovan would love it if D-Mac to DeSean upstaged Romo to TO.

Oh, Donovan! Those of us who are your neighbors here in Moorestown are always rooting for you. (We live two houses away from T.O's still-on-the-market home here in town.) I remember seeing your mom driving (slowly, very slowly!) down Cove Road after having visited Owens after his injury. She was great! She'd be sitting perched behind the wheel of her black Mercedes, waving to those of us who happened to be outside when she was there, with a big smile on her face. You gotta love her! These teams are set on a crash course to colide in the playoffs. "That" is going to be a great game. One thing that really determined this game, I believe, was second-half adjustments. Advantage: Cowboys. Dallas scored 17 in the second half, the Eagles scored 7. This is where Jason Garrett is really showing his talent as the Offensive Coordinator. He recognized that the Eagles were moving a double on Owens, so the Cowboys countered by going to Witten and Barber. I believe that one thing to keep in mind is that the Dallas "D" has some new faces on it, and it will take some time to grow together. The secondary was exposed somewhat in the first half, but tightened up in the second. You have new players like Pacman Jones, Jenkins, Scandrick, Zach Thomas. They will continue to get better with playing time, so I expect us to do better next time we face McNabb. I was impressed with McNabb. He is one hard man to bring down. He managed to break away from many blitzes that would have gotten most QB's. This Cowboys Offense is loaded with talent. They have so many weapons, that it is hard to imagine how they can use them all. If our team can peak at the right time (playoff time), which is the trick, I like our chances. It appears that I was wrong on DeShaun Jackson. He looks pretty good, though I will be interested to see how he holds up physically (at 160 lbs, which is very small). He has very good speed, and I believe he will challenge for one of those starting WR positions in Philly. This game definitely lived up to the billing.
