Hurricane Ike

Every now and then life gives you a reality check. I'm lucky to be playing the game of football. I love what I do and I'm blessed to be able to do it at the NFL level. I'm fortunate that I have a loving, healthy family. Sometimes life isn't so easy or so kind. A few years ago many families were affected by Hurricane Katrina. Some of those families as well as several areas in Louisiana have still not recovered. Last week we were reminded how devastating and destructive Mother Nature can be. While Hurricane Ike might not have left the same wreckage that Katrina did, there were still many who had to deal with the destruction. There were threats that Dallas might be hit and the Eagles monitored how it would affect us and our travels for Monday Night's game. While it did not affect us directly, I feel for the people of Houston and the areas around it. For the NFL to have postponed a game, there must have been severe damage. I have many friends and family members in that part of the country and hope they all can recover quickly. Often in my line of work, we have blinders on. We have such a focus on ourselves and our jobs that we lose sight of the world around us. Some things we just cannot ignore.

Good game last night....I really thought that was real big of you to accept the blame for the fumble.......Your a good guy, and I KNOW YOU WILL LEAD OUR TEAM TO VICTORY!!!!!! It is real cool that you took time to reflect on those poor people in Tezas....all rivalry aside. i dont wish that on anyone......

  Great post, and GREAT GAME last night, those are the ones that are the hardest but best to lose..and as far as the post goes, i really feel for the familys affected by the hurricane. and i appreciate you for posting about it

  Donovan, once again you prove how much of a class act you are. Hopefully everyone who was affected will be able to get their lives back together and rebuild after the storm.
  
  Good game Monday... it always sucks to lose, especially to the Cowboys, but you came to play, and I have a feeling we're not going to end up on the losing end that many times this season. Go get Pittsburgh on Sunday!

  I know people around here don't want to hear from a Cowboys fan, but I just wanted to say that you were amazing on Monday night. I wouldn't be feeling so good I suppose had we lost, but I haven't seen a game like that in years, and I know that the Eagles will be vying for the NFC East title when the boys come for round two on your turf. You're a real warrior.

  I would just like to say that you played a great game, would have like to see the end result, as I know you would have also. Don't beat yourself up, you are the best quaterback in the league. That is my opinion as a professional blogger, okay but for real I hope we can move on fromt his loss. So everyone said we would fold, we would not be able to hang. Not only did we do that, but should have gotten the win!
  I know we are going to have a great season, eyes on the prize, stay the course, all that cliche stuff.

  You definitely conduct yourself as all athletes should aspire to conduct themselves -- with class and respect. Oddly enough, living in Ohio, I never thought I'd get an idea of what hurricane damage would be like. But, here in Cincinnati, the after-effects of Hurricane Ike are very noticeable. Case in point, I have a 30-foot pine tree leaning on my house as we speak, and we just got our power up and running this morning after 3 days. It definitely makes me appreciate the short time we went without power and all the "normal" amenities of life, and makes me realize that a lot of people have it worse off than I do right now...not only in my area, but in the U.S. I wish everyone the very best in a speedy clean-up and rebuilding process.

  Yes Donovan is a class act, I agree! I appreciate your thoughts on the hurricane and love that you express sympathy and all that jazz. But c'mon Donovan! In your first post after the Cowboys game I want to read your thoughts on the game! I want to hear your thoughts on DeSean Jackson's premature celebration! It was a great game and unfortunately you guys came up on the short end. I'm ready for Pittsburgh! That will in deed be a very tough game.

  Donovan, New York Giants fan here. I love the way you play the game, you truly are an amazing QB.... Ive got one question for you... Which Defensive lineman do u fear most in the NFL? (Justin Tuck is human and an acceptable answer) GL this season, just not against my Giants.

  Donovan you are the man. I was so happy to read you reaching out to the people in Texas and other affected areas from the hurricane. I am a huge Eagles fan, and also a huge #5 fan. eventhough we lost the game, you played awesome as well as the other players. we all have to lose games, eventhough we dont want to. you showed us that u are also a great person, and caring for the well being of others. i praise you for this, and this just adds to the reasons why i think you are the best player in the league. talent can only take you so far, and you show us u have exceptional talent, and also a heart. you are the man. and i think that everyone can learn something from you. keep your head up and go get them steelers..

  I just want to say thanks D Mac! You had me on the edge of my seat the whole game... People might not agree but one of the best MNF games and or the best football game i have ever seen. You looked really got Donovan and so didnt Westbrook. I thought you guys were going to win it to. O well next time!!! I wish the O Line blocked for you at the end and what was that play when you ladderaled it to Westbrook???? Why didnt you go long. Anyway great job and we will get them in PHILLY!!!!

  Keep up the good work....Hope the chest is OK. Best wishes-#1 Eagle Fan In TEXAS. Thanks for your prayers-some of my family is still without lights up near Alvin (a little outside of Houston), but I have a feeling things will get better.
