I'm Embarrassed
I made a comment after the game [Sunday] that's worth repeating - I'm embarrassed. I'm embarrassed with the way we played the past two weeks. I believe that we lost to teams we should have beaten. Not because I think they are not good - they are. But I still believe we are better; we just didn't show it. I'm embarrassed with the way I played. I didn't do enough to win the game for my team. I take that to heart. I want the ball in my hand when the game is on the line and, if I have it, I have to make a play. I'll take that responsibility. All three of our losses were within a score so one play could have made a difference - a fumble, an interception, calling an audible, not calling an audible. I am a proud person and I work hard to prepare to win each and every week. Certainly there have been times where we have been beaten. Take nothing away from other teams who also prepare hard and have a high-skill level. You can't win every week. But losing in the fashion that we have just doesn't sit well with me. I've made mistakes and I've owned up to them. I'm sure that some of my teammates and coaches might feel that they also could have done better. But a play here and a play there is costing us precious division and conference games that can bite us down the stretch. We didn't start playing well last year until it was too late. It's not too late to turn it around now. But to do so, we have to be embarrassed enough as a team to do something about it. I'm better than this and I'll prove it. I know my team is too. Now we have to prove it.

McNabb you are a great QB and if you had more weapons we would be 5-0. Its early and there is alot of football left to play. My prediction is Eagles vs Titans for the Bowl.
I am tired of hearing of how TO was the only time McNabb was good. If you look at the year that we made it to the bowl, TO did not play in the playoffs until the Bowl Game so we can do it. Eagles Rule

I think we all believe this statement. I know for a fact that I do. Of course I'm a huge DMac fan, so my saying this is not a surprise, but I'm not 100% sure that this loss is your blame to shoulder. I said to everyone who listened to me screaming maniacally that the Eagles are better, but the plays that are being called and the way the personnel is being used in games is killing the Eagles chances to win. That is NOT on the QB. The fumble in Dallas, well, that was on you. :( But Chicago and DC? No way. The Redskins won, but the Eagles are a better team. Nobody can tell me different. With the lackluster performance the Eagles put in the subsequent 3 quarters, they were STILL within a TD of winning the game. Portis ran for 145 yards because the defense was on the field too long and I'm sure, tired out. Yet, still, they failed to produce a blowout, which could have EASILY occurred with an elite team. But anyway, my concern is that the coach seems to be still calling the same plays that worked when the NFC East only had one strong team. The other 3 teams have improved...drastically...and we are falling behind because while the other coaches elsewhere have grown and adapted, ours is still sticking with the FORMER tried and true plays. Notice I said FORMER. They don't work anymore! Come on Coach Reid, piece together some innovative plays that will REALLY put this team in the position to come away with the win!

Donovan this team is in serious trouble, and if you want to make the playoffs you better step up and be a leader and put this team on your back. Your going to have to go 9-2 the rest of the way to make the playoffs. I guess we'll see if you still have the ability to do what you did early in your career and carry this offense. Good luck!

I am a long time Dallas fan and Eagler hater. In spite of that, I'm a Donovan McNabb fan. When the guys debate who's the best QB, I make my case that it's Donovan McNabb. You have carried your team on your back and paid a toll with your body. I've seen you beat my team others with your arm and legs, your head and his heart, and you're always a class act even dealing with a particular idiot prima donna wide receiver who should never have been allowed to wear the star.
This blog entry is just another example of class.

That quote right there sums up what we all know, what we all believe, and what we all know can happen. The past two games have been hard losses. The loss to the cowboys left a bitter taste in our mouths but for the most part, you guys played like champions. There is still plenty of time to pick up the pace, look at the progress made at the end of last season. You can do it and it will happen. Taking responsiblity is an admirable thing and you don't see many quarterbacks doing it these days. That being said, one player can't carry the whole team. It's easy to point fingers at key players but there is a reason football is a team sport. To win games, everyone on the team has to give 100% and working together like a fine tuned machine. Bottom line- It's not all McNabb's fault and we just need a little bit more fine tuning to pick up the pace. This team shows amazing potential, everyone sees it. Let's just work on being consistent and the wins will come.

I've read these posts and people 'what if' every game situation as if another action could have prevented a loss...and that's unfortunate. It's easy to call the plays as a couch coach, especially when the original strategy fell through.
Here are the facts. Baskett dropped an endzone pass against Chicago and Akers missed a field goal.
Against Washington, Akers again missed field goals. The Eagles are as strong as their weakest link and if the kicker can't make field goals, it's time to look for a replacement.
Mostly, I'm disappointed that Jim Johnson's defense allowed Clinton Portis to run all over them. It was disheartening to watch one man expose every weakness our defense had.
Another trend I've read here is that McNabb should run more and start calling his own plays. McNabb has matured as a quarterback and made the adjustment from scrambling to becoming a threatening pocket passer. Frankly, I'd rather have the pocket passer because they stay a lot healthier, longer. Most of McNabb's past injuries were caused as he was running with the football. Randall Cunningham broke his leg doing the same thing and he never returned as potent as he was before his injury.
McNabb is doing the best he can with what he has. McNabb and Westbrook are the two serious playmakers on offense that opposing teams look to shut down. Westbrook has been used so much that he's taken a tremendous beating and isn't close to full health. Jackson will become a serious threat later in the year, or even next year, after he learns his way through his rookie mistakes. The kid's got talent but he reminds me of a young Terrell Owens.
I hope whatever kinks are plauging the team as a whole get worked out soon. I want to see the team that exposed last year's Patriots as vulnerable, not the lifeless team I saw this past Sunday.

I still support McNabb and I think he is one of the top five QB's in the league, and at times, the best QB in the league. Not to pass the buck, but there were several dropped pass in key moments of the game on Sunday, and that isn't Donovan's fault - although he does share in the blame.
Going forward, the Eagles need to stay healthy and execute. Where has LJ Smith been? Having Curtis back soon will also provide a boast for the offense, especially if Westbrook is banged up.
A win in San Fran would be a step in the right direction. The Niners are a good team and it is always difficult traveling out west.
Good luck and GO EAGLES!!!

Games against the Giants x 2, Cowboys, and 'Skins still to play. The Ravens at their house, too.
Looks like another rebuilding year.
Two lost opportunities for an underachieving team without a clear cut leader who can take charge and make the team work.
Want to win with this group? Go grab #85 and let him run some real pass patterns so that Donovan has someone to throw to. Oh, and better start drafting o-linemen, those guys are starting to look really old.
Just another average year for an average team in a city that deserves better, and a QB that does too.

McNabb needs to run more. Quit trying to force the ball. If you have an open area, take off. We all know you are a great QB. It okay to to run every now and then.
Another thing, find some receivers who can hold onto the ball. It seems like the Eagle receivers don't know how to catch. Dropped passes everywhere. McNabb is either throwing to hard or the receivers don't know how to catch.
I hope they can regroup against the Niners. If not, there's always the Flyers and Sixers. A don't forget the Phillies.

Long time Philly sports fan here. I have nothing but respect for you but please....for the love of God...get some fire going. Get some anger, get some purpose. You, as the leader of this team, look so non chalant on the field. It's kind of like 'yea I've done this a million times blah blah blah". It's like you're tired. A lot of fans love you through the wins and losses but the difference I see is lack of enthusiasm on the field. There is no urgency, no spark. You used to show that spark regularly. Now I hear a million people say 'oh well you don't have the right tools in which to work'. The fact is you have more now than you have had or ever will have. I don't really want to hear apologies anymore. It's only an apology when you change the action for which you are apologizing for.
Once again, I want to say that I think you're a fantastic player and certainly worthy of lots of respect. But you really need to light that spark, or we're a dead team.
Thanks for reading.

Donovan, my brother and I were brought to tears when we didn't get you out of Syracuse. I know you've tried your best to make it work in Philly. If it doesn't work out there for the long term, hopefully next year you'll find a home where you will be respected. You could take the Vikings, Bears, Ravens, or even the Texans to that next level. I'd love it if you'd stick with the AFC, though!

You've been playing this game for a long time now. You've played with all types of recivers from the self-heralded best to some of the worst. This year you guys don't have the talent to expect your recivers to be able to brake coverage at will, so my question is why not scramble a few times when a play breaks down (we all know you don't to be catergorised as a running quaterback, we heard you the first 100 times) at least put it out there to keep the defense honest. We all know you have a canon so does the nfl, I'm not saying go back to 99 but forcing defenses to spy opens holes underneath, eliminates one more guy 36 has to beat and eliminates at least one possible double team on your recivers. You have the ability to terrify defenses all by yourself, reemerge multidimensional and it will make the game that much easier for you and the rest of the offense. For god's sake man when the d thought you were going to run they would break coverage and leave everybody open, but they have to believe you're a threat to carry the ball even if you don't.

I believe in you Mcnabb, and I definitely know you believe in your self. I think you should keep writing blogs like this, because us Philly fans love it when a superstar shows that they care about the teams performance and we get hyped up because of it. I hope that you read this comment before the game on Sunday and at least consider some of it's points, and i know that you, the leader of this downtrodden team, will do whatever it takes to take lead us to victory, even if it means putting the ball into your own hands more than usual. GO EAGLES and GO #5!!
P.S. - The defense really needs to step it up this week also. We give them the ball with 7 minutes left, and they run out the clock on us?! Are you kidding me?! Also, FantheMan, i understand your frustration with the receivers, but to say that McNabb should say to the media that they suck is a ridiculous statement. First off, EVERYONE in the media would be all over McNabb for that, calling him a poor sport and an excuse-maker. Everyone knows the Eagles receivers are far from league toppers, but stating that would make mcnabb hated by both the media and the rest of the team.

I'm glad to see your blog. You have looked great since the beginning of the season, what you need to do is to take the game in your hands and run again. I know you aren't a running qb, but sometimes when you see no one can get separation, get that first down yourself. Call your own plays, whatever Reid is calling, you are on the field, if you don't see that, change it, what is he going to say or do, bench you??? I doubt it. This is your team, get them in line, if they want to earn their money, they will do what's suposed to be done, or sit on the bench. You have to get in their faces. I love you and I believe had you had the help you needed you would have been back to the superbowl the following year you went, but no, Reid dismantled that team. If that's the team that took you there, that's the same team you keep the following year. I'm sorry to digress but I have been upset since then, and the decisions haven't been better. Keep up the good work, I will keep rooting for you and pray you make it to the playoffs and hopefully the superbowl and win this time. If not I will always be a fan of yours and will follow you wherever you go.

Shows no Heart, No Passion,Confidence, and terrible leadership skills.
If not for Westbrook to bail out McNabb he would be considered avg. QB at best. Do you ever watch
#5 come out of the huddle there is no passion in his eyes, the rest of the players don't seem to show confidence in him as he lacks leadership skills. When Garcia was player him in 2006 there was passion coming out of the huddle and no lack of confidence. He is playing Pro football and comes out of the huddle like his heartbeat is at 50 beats a minute how can be a team leader with-out the abailty to
pump up the players around you and show them you are ready to battle. Have you ever seen Dan Marino, John Elway or Peyton Mannning play? Bottom Line T.O. was right about you as if the Eagles had Brett Favre on the Eagles they would have one atleast 2 superbowls.
You have now been outplayed the last weeks by both the Bears and Redskins QB's and to bad there isn;t a stat for leadership,Passion or Heart because if there was you would be out of the league on those three things.

They played your high-powered offense without three of their Defensive starters. They have shut down four "high-powered" offenses and the Giants for the last half after starting out badly. So, 4 1/2 games of playing good Defense is forgotten, when they beat the "better" teams.
Yeah, they have a new coach, but that's not so bad. He studied under the same people as Andy "The Genius" Reid. So, cut him a break. My feeling is you should run the ball more and Andy should stop protecting you from injury. Against Chicago, you could have taken it in. Against the Skins, you should have taken it in. After all, you are "better" than those teams.
Even though I'm a Skins fan, my nephews and in-laws live in Philly. My wife is from Philly. I've always liked you unless you are playing against the Skins, or your win can hurt the Skins. Otherwise, good luck. You guys are "better" than every other team.

I am glad to see that you have taken a "command approach" to the current situation. I realize that the "gravity" of the situation is clear -- two divisional losses as well as one within the conference. You know, I remember seeing Holmgren and Reid pissed-off after the Packers scored six back in Favre's early days. It has only been since the advent of NFL Network that I realized why; namely that Brett said to the huddle, "here's what we were told to do, but here's what we're *gonna* do". I guess that's what I'd like to see you do when I am up in 'Frisco this weekend -- make some "command decisions" at the tactical level -- hopefully for some 6-pointers!

I think Donovan has to realize that people who win championships are forever considered greats. Just keep that in mind before you step on the field.

McNabb you are so funny I guess in 2005 when ya lost to the Patriots you were the better team in that game also.
Eagles will be lucky to stay out of the cellar this year.
I wonder what the Eagles Win Loss record is when compared to McNabb beiing out and Westbrook.
My guess is they miss westbrook more than McNabb.
