Looking Forward

It's been a terrific offseason for me. I have spent most of my time in Arizona with my wife and three kids. Having a chance to be a dad - going to my daughter's soccer games and dance recitals, and seeing the babies grow and develop; there is nothing better than that. I am truly blessed and fortunate that the American Diabetes Association will honor me and two other men in June as Father of the Year. But I'm not the only McNabb that is blessed...Saturday night my parents will be honored by the Allied Athlete Group in Atlanta for their work with the Professional Football Players Mothers and National Football Players Fathers Associations. And on Saturday my wife will hold her annual Philadelphia Community Baby Shower for expectant mothers.

Make no mistake, I've been training like crazy to make sure that I can improve as a quarterback and do everything necessary to try and win a championship for this city. I said it before, I was inspired by the way the Phillies won the World Series and how they were treated by the City and their fans and I want to experience that myself in the worst way.

Now down to some football talk.....

You'll notice that I am ready to move forward. I'm the first to admit that you must learn from your failures, I also believe that you cannot change the past. It's time to focus on the future.

As with every minicamp since I've been in the league, I'm excited about meeting my new teammates, getting to know them and working together on the field. We now have a lot of new, young skill position players and it will be exciting and interesting to see how they become acclimated to what we do here. If they can come in here and take their game to the next level, they will be productive pros and we can achieve great successes together. I want to welcome the new rookies and am excited to get to work with them.

I haven't taken the time yet to welcome some of the veteran free agents to the team. I'm looking forward to working with a new set of bookends on the o-line. Stacey Andrews and Jason Peters are young, athletic and physical. They will help in both the passing and running game. The same can be said for fullback Leonard Weaver. As for the additions on defense - Ellis Hobbs, Rashad Baker, and Sean Jones - I can't wait to see how Jim Johnson uses all the talent he has at his disposal.

I want to congratulate all the newcomers and let them know that I am excited to be working with them and taking the first step towards moving forward and getting something accomplished.

    You stink of New York. Hate all you want on 5 but the fact remains, despite all our organizations faults, one thing can be said for certain... you won't see any headlines reading McNABB BUSTED ON GUN CHARGES!
    I'm 100% sure that Westbrook won't be missing any time this season nursing a self inflicted gunshot wound acquired from "trying to protect his bling". In true New York fashion you would try and downgrade a true class act (D-Mac). I'll tell you what how about you stick to what New yorkers do best... broadway musicals, fashion shows, and tourists. And we'll stick to what we do best... Being true fans, hating Everyone who doesn't bleed green, and making fools of the NFC east. Give my regards to broadway chump

    I know he is gone. This is the first time I have posted since he came to Denver, where I live. It doesn't mean that he can't be mentioned. He as been the heart of the Eagles for years. I'm excited for this season but it is going to be interesting without his presence. We can't pretend that it won't have an impact at first..... Donovan,

I was waiting for a new post from you regarding free agency and the draft! I hope you are happy with the additions (I certainly am) and that now the team can move on together and accomplish the greatest feat in team sports: winning the Super Bowl.

It is obvious that Coach Reid and the management really looked to upgrade the skill positions and add more weapons. The bookend tackles are set for the next 5-6 years and we now have more weapons at the skill positions for you to utilize.

The defense hopefully shouldn't miss a beat, as long as there is some form of leadership. Obviously losing a player like Dawkins for his leadership AND play will make it interesting. I think Stewart Bradley can step up and take leadership of this defense. I also am looking forward to seeing Demps play full-time at safety (he should win the job). Good luck this year and this is one Eagles fan that is always behind the players and the team. GO BIRDS!!!

Donovan, no matter how much of a hissy fit us fans sometimes throw, we would never want anyone else to quarterback and lead our team to victory than you. When you eventually retire, the city will be wishing you could still be playing. Its been awesome because I really started to LOVE the eagles and understand football as you joined the team. ( I was 8) So I have been able to follow your career. You will always be my favorite eagle.
Don't listen to any of those haters in ESPN or CSN Philly or 610 WIP. Other than hugh and ike, none of them could do half of what you can do. Although everyone does it, it is wrong to judge people until you live a day in their life. And none of those people have ever been in your situation.
Keep bringing pride to the city. And maybe a superbowl in '10???

      Wheelman you have no idea what you're talking about. The Bills possible move to Toronto has nothing to do with the fans. The fans are some of the most loyal in the NFL, they are diehard. The move has to do with the limited market size and the NFL's rampant transition to international commercialism. People do care, but the organization is riddled with issues (ie Ralph Wilson, poor management, poor coaching, poor decisions). I'm not saying the BIlls are the best NFL organization, that is absolutely untrue. The fans care so much about that team, it is one of the oldest in the NFL. By the way the Bills stadium sells out every home game and has for many years, despite our record. I don't blame Peters for not wanting to play there, but we don't want people with his attitude.       Been there, done that. Really enjoyed watching figure skating on the mini-TV of the `die-hard fan` next to me. You can blame everyone and everything for the Bills branching out across the Welland Canal, but just as surely as they are heading north, Jason Peters is heading south. How will he do in Philly? I don`t know, but neither do you. I like to give people a chance, before I dump on them. I also don`t particularly care for people trashing the teams they `say` they root for. That includes the Hawks and the Eagles, not simply the Bills. There are thirty-one other fan bases that are obliged to dump on the Bills, they don`t need it from the thirty-second, the ones that are purported to be their fans.

I recognize their faults, but it's something about the history and the tradition and having grown up 4 miles from the stadium for 18 years of my life. That's called being a fan. Judging by your use of "ninnies" and your profile, you're a ugly, bad-toothed, nannied England boy. So go back there and sit on a cricket bat. All I know about Peters is he played poorly for the Bills, for whatever reason, held out on his contract last season for several games, and threatened to do it again. That's a great attitude for a professional. Players should not get more money by extorting it by playing horribly or threatening not to play at all. Therefore good riddance Peters.

Philly fans may be rough on our players, but its only because we demand wins. I'm glad Donovan can look at a guy like Pat Burrell, who many people in this town hated on soooooo hard, and see that fans really love him but just want him to win. The same goes for Donovan. If he can bring this city a superbowl championship, he will be immortalized in Philly sports history. Even if he doesn't do it, I still think he did a damn good job making runs at it year after year. I can't wait for this season and to see us use all of our arsenal of offensive weapons. Only shame is we won't be able to win it all with Dawkins at the helm of our defense. Dude should have stayed...I don't blame the front office for that I blame the economics of it.

McNabb is a class act. I look up to him as an athlete and person. I think we have been spoiled with a player of his caliber and the way he handles the media. People will criticize him for anything. There are people out there that believe in McNabb. Unfortunately there are other people that make hasty allegations with no facts. If you want facts look on my previous post. McNabb and the Eagles will have a brilliant year. I cannot wait for the season to start. I hope he gets the extension he wants.

This is what I've been trying to say all of last year, you need more talent on the offensive side of the ball. Although I would have liked if the Eagles traded for Anquin Boldin I am excited about the players they drafted. If Jeremy Maclin can pick up the offense as quickly as Desean Jackson did you will have potentially the best passing attack in the NFC East. I just hope the coaching staff gives Maclin a chance to be an immediate starter. They can't use the excuse that he is a rookie and needs to be weaned into the offense because Jackson picked it up, true he was forced into the starting role due to injuries to other receivers but he started nontheless so why not give Maclin the chance. With Ingram and Celik you have two tight ends that can catch the ball and Celik improved on his blocking. You can split Westbrook and McCoy out of the backfield so this is probably the best offense you've had since TO. Also the players on defense should make the team better on the defensive side of the ball. Have a great season and win a Superbowl.

I truely beleive this will be the best yr yet. i think the Eagles FO picked up some great talent in free agency, and made some great picks in the draft.
But there's 3months till pre-season. alot can still happen till then. It will be great to see how Westbrook does now that you'll have a real FB.
And if Maclin is as good in his rookie yr as Jackson was, opposing Defenses will have a hard time figuring who to cover..most teams don't have 2 speed demons and Waldo.
And this season when you're in San Diego and it sounds like last year at San Fran, well, that's all of us West Coast Eagles fans, again.. stop by for a beer after the game.. we'll be in the parking lot...

Donovan I've been a big supporter for what you have done since day one. You have really taken our franchise to another level. Its about time we gave you someone else to throw the ball to, you can never use too many weapons. Its unfair for you and Westbrook to have to carry the load week to week. The offseason additions should hopefully pan out and take some pressure off of you and really boost our running game. I'm looking forward to another all pro season from our future hall of fame qb. McNabb if you do In fact read these comments at least listen to this one...no matter what us eagles fans say about you or how you perform we couldn't do anything we are doing now without you. You are the hope for this city, and a savior to the fans. I hope that you will stay in philly, and retire in philly. You are the best qb we have ever had. Don't be down when something goes wrong, learn and improve...that's the way life is no matter how old you are, or what you are even doing in life today. McNabb you are our qb, and no matter what happens I will argue in your defense because I know you got it in you to win the big game for us. I understand you wanted more weapons, and you have them now, but they may not develop for a few years...now listen when you get offered another contract, which you will within the next two years to make you retire an Eagle, remember it isn't always about the money, it is about the fans. I've been hearing that the WIP morning show is claiming there's nothing negative here about you so I came and looked and, as usual, there's is - they just don't acknowledge it on the air because then they'd have something less to criticize.

At the least, you're here for fans to make comments to.
When I go to their website, ther's no place to write them and you would think that for a morning zoo type show that claims it's lead by the "Voice of the People", that front and center there would be a ''contact us'' icon to write each person in the zoo.

Not. There IS an icon to contact them if one wants to advertise there - that they nailed!

They do have individuals who, when on their own, are intelligent but when with "The Voice" it's apparent their not permitted to allow that intelligence to exhibit itself. Hughes, Doughlas, Diddinger - all bright people that can talk sports.

"The Voice" - aka "the Zoomaster", not so much which is why he, apparently, needs to mis-state the facts.

Sadly, I have to wait until Jody Mac comes on WPEN to begin my sports day.

One other point - you may have heard Rhea say something about how they've been a silly show for years and anyone who listens should know that (I'm paraphrasing).
I'm fairly new to the area and DIDN'T know that.
Especially with her, Hugh, and ray D sitting there - all very knowledgeable people, from time to time I DO get some thoughtful sports talk although it's usually cut off by the Zoo keeper..

The show that follows is pretty good too but after that, it's over to Jody Mac.

the EAGLES still does NOT have that bully WR in the Redzone... Yet .
getting into the redzone is no problem for the eagles, the problem is they STALL when they get into the redzone. Right ?
But it will be Fun watching Maclin & Desean running around for a Bunch of Yards...it would be great to get TDs too though, with a redzone BULLY WR ... & CORRECT how the eagles STALL on drives in the redzone.
eagels can't consistently move the ball without a high-end wideout . Apart from what he does when he catches the ball, his mere presence opens up the rest of the offense by requiring teams to devote two defenders to him at all times.
our WRs will have some nice yardage production, but they won't command the same respect that essentially reduces the field to 10-on-9.
if we get that last piece ... THEN we will MOST Definitely WIN THE SUPERBOWL

please tell the FO. that if they want a superbowl,then they should follow the MODEL of success that every superbowl team had... a high end wideout. Bucs had keyshawn, colts had marvin & wayne,giants PLAX,steelers ward & holmes,etc... out of 40 superbowl teams ONLY the ravens won without a proven#1 WR. ( the pats dont count since they used SPYGATE). so that is 40 to 1 odds. so PLEASE tell the F.O. to name a superbowl team without a high end WR at least 700 yards & 7 TDs ? maybe i missed a few, BUT still they are a few vs. the MANY.
after they answer the question, then PLEASE tell them to go out and get us an NFL PROVEN WR like the other superbowl teams had .

Don, It must be hard to see Jimmy going through this but all you can do is keep the mood positive. I posted a comment awhile ago and am checking in to see how your progress is going with your conditioning. I mentioned in the posting that Kurt Warner looked alot better playing at 205lbs to 210lbs. You have to admit he was looking kinda chunky when he played in NY. Im not saying lose that much weight but i feel that you would feel alot better if were at least at 220lbs to 225lbs. You really don't need all that extra weight to absorb the so called hits. You really haven't been blindsided all that much since you came into the NFL. I really do believe that it would do a world of good if you attempted to achieve this goal. I think your accuracy is affected because of your extra bulk. Plus, if your are cardiovascularly strong you won't tire as easy. Bring back the threat you posed on defenses for years. Right now defenses lost some but not all respect for your game. You must absolutely take complete charge of this team and do everything possible to punish defenses and make them remember. Can't wait to see you in camp.
