My Yardbarker Blog

Hello Yardbarkers. First off, I just want to say that I'm really excited about this blog and the opportunity to connect directly with you, the fans. I will be writing or posting video once or twice a week during the course of the season. Let me know what you think and I'll try to respond to your comments when I can. Below is some video we shot in Arizona two weeks ago of myself and a few of my teammates going through agility drills at makeplays.com. Several other pro athletes work out there too. I've been doing this for 8 years now, every offseason since I've been in the league. For the last several years, I have hosted a few of my teammates for a week so that we can push each other and also enjoy some camaraderie. Take a look at our work.

Donovan, awesome to have you and your thoughts here! I can't wait for the upcoming season and I know my boy down here in Atlanta John Kincaide cannot wait either! He hosts a bunch of talk radio shows and is the self-proclaimed biggest Eagles and Mcabb fan! We're dealing with the Vick issue right now, which I am extremely disappointed in. I was pumped for us this year, but now I'm just worried. Hopefully we can come out of it okay. You are the wittiest NFL personality I know, can't wait to read your thoughts and opinions this year, and good luck!

summer workouts in arizona - at least it was cool where you were. must be why you were wearing long sleeves. gets chilly (116 last time i dropped by two weeks ago) this time of year. best of luck with camp and the season. stay healthy

Hey Donavon McNabb, although I am a New York Giants fan, I effin love to see you play. You're an exciting quarterback to watch. You can run for a first down and you can throw a hail mary pass like it's nobody's business which is why your awesome. The Giants should've traded up for you in the NFL Draft in 1999. I'm sure we could've won a few Super Bowls together. Anyway, good luck this upcoming NFL season. I can't wait to face you guys in Week 4!

Nothing against you or the city of Philly, but I know people from Philly are very opinionnated and aren't always the smartest and will give up on something if it has one bad day kinda like a fan from NY and I think you know what I mean by that. McNabb, I first want to say may God Bless you with this upcoming season and beyond that. I'm 25 years old (It's my birthday today July 27th) and I've been in a wheelchair since I was 14. I'm currently on kidney dialysis 5 days a week here at home and am a HUGE Eagles fan. You always have been my favorite player since college and no matter what anyone says (I'll leave it at that) keep being who you are. I always hoped to meet you some day since draft but that has never happened due to my handicap. That being said, it's an honor to watch you play on the Eagles and in the NFL. Let's get this season started!!!!

Donny, its great to see the rehab & your progression from your knee injury is improving. A little off point, I hope you realize how much you mean to the city of Philadelphia and the fans. Don't get it twisted when you hear all the media bad mouthing you and making it sounds like the fans aren't on your side. I realize the media needs to do their job and in most cases that means making up a story. I don't think i've ever come a cross a fan who can honestly say they are not happy your on our team. Quite frankly, it seems as if the media puts words in our mouth and makes it sound like we are against you. This is not the case, the city is very honored to have such a talented QB and I don't want you to forget that.

  I couldn't agree more with everything in the post above. As a season ticket holder, I know we can be tough sometimes, but all we've ever asked for from our players is effort. Donovan, you leave everything you've got on the field every game, and there isn't a single person in the stands that doesn't understand and respect that. Please don't let the goofballs over at WIP and similar media outlets give you the impression that we're not behind you. Not only is the city of Philadelphia (and all Eagles fans, wherever they are) honored to have you as our QB, we are just as honored to have such a quality person as the leader of our franchise. Nice see you working it. You still limp a little and it's very understandable. I had ACL repaired using my hamstring I'm not sure which method you've had done but you are recovering well. Just be careful and don't do too much too quick. We need you for the long run.

FIVE, seems like you have an impressive off season work ethic. One thing I wonder though, is about your propensity to spill your cookies at certain times in big game. The question was posed about Race and sports- being are blacks better athletes.

Over and over - look people this isn't a white and black world. first of all, I don't see any Black or white people. I see brown, and tan, colors with pigments not just white and black.
This is the easiest way to dilute racism, I played sports but I am on the computer right now instead of resting for my big game tonight and I'm black.

Latins, Asians, and all other ethnicities are good at what they practice hard at. The main reason Blacks are so concentrated in sports is that the main option for them in society. Public schools, condition blacks to play sports and not read. make it easy for blacks to go far in sports but not in education and learning. It s an easy way to hold a person back.

Entertainment has always been the Neo-black free mans way of suvival. From bojangles, to Barry Bonds, the Afrcan was brought here for work, not leisure. Honestly. ALthough he had honor in his land, the neo african has no idea in large part of it.

SO the neo african has to pave roads in his new environment, prove his place and gain respect.

NO the balck man is not better in anything, but neither is any other race at anythng, its all individual, all with the same opportunity to achieve have the same opportunity to acheive higher than the other.

Big-D! Welcome back! Great footwork in the video. Best wishes staying healthy this year, my stomach sank the last couple of seasons when you went down. Hey, just a couple of items out of curiousity that I never thought I'd get an answer to: 1. I know Marvin Harrison is a Philly native, was there ever a time when you suggested that management go get him. (I'm a 'Cuse grad too - class of '91 so I saw your last game together where you smoked Clemson and you two hooked up for about 4 TD's and a million yards)
2. I won't encourage you to run anymore because I want you to live to play until you're 40, but did the coaches ever approach you about a number of designed runs (per game) in the gameplan. I remember watching Steve Young and John Elway. They were most effective when about 3-4 times per half, they would just take off. Drove defenses crazy trying to cover that. Opened up the pass game too. Just curious. If you get a second to respond I'd love to hear from you. Sincerely, Eric Easton

Hey Yo D MAC, you're the man. I just want to say on the record to you that as a huge Eagles fan for 35 years, you are the best darn QB I have ever seen on the Eagles and that includes Randal Cunningham. I did not have the pleasure of watching in the 60's so I am saying that in the last 35 years you are the best, bar none. Don't for a second think that us true fans have overlooked your stellar accomplishments in the NFL (5 Pro Bowls, 4 NFC championship games, 1 Superbowl, all your yards, TDs, QB rating, rushing yards and TDs, and low number of interceptions). Many say to me that a black QB will never take a team to the Superbowl championship and win. Even as a white man, that bugs me. People who say that are ignorant and predjudice. I abhor predjudice of any kind. I believe in you D MAC and have been praying to Jesus that you come back 100% healthy this season and do your thing. I don't need to pray for the Superbowl victory that I am waiting for in Philly because I know if this team is healthy, you dawgs will get it done for us and make history! This town is so starved for a championship and I know you feel it and that the desire to win burns in your heart too. I truly want our first Superbowl to include the great athletes on this team that represent the right way; who truly deserve it. Hey what's up yall finally the 2007 nfl season here i thought i was going to go insane there nothing really to watch these days thank the lord for EAGLES.com and Yardbarker or ill go crazy anyways i use to live in Philly near Cheltenham for about 10 years ago now i live in Canada i hate it everyone loves hockey here but for some wired reason I found 10 die hard eagles fan that live here so life is becoming real nice here in Canada. Now as for the upcoming season im feeling the NEW defense and the offence is just the same even without stall worthless. Mcnab regardless of how the media hit on him all the time he still makes them look dumb that's what i love about the guy hes under some tense pressure from the organization and eagle fans aren't the nicest fans but hes still manages to maintain professionalism and consistency. So what im really trying to say even if mcnab get's injured or fucks up..... you know what its ok as long as us as a team believe in god and play with heart we will win a superbowl but until then Stop getting mad we will get there and Mcnab will take us there.

Let me start by saying that beyond the outstanding statistics you have to validate your NFL career, you have the special "it" factor that only the great football players have. I saw "IT" in you for the first time during the famous 4th& 26 play from the Linc and I can see 'it' in you now. 14 seconds in the backfield against Dallas didn't hurt anybody either, but enough about the past. I have seen into the future and a championship ring is in yours. All that I have to say to the people that knock your game would likely get me kicked off of this message board, the bottom line is that I know, and any true eagle fan knows that you are the truth. You simply make the WRs better and any player that makes those around him strive is a true leader. With super 5 at the helm and a balanced 50/50 pass/run ration from the sidelines no one can stop philly this year, not even the AFC. At the end of the day it is the NFL, I know you want that Super Bowl ring, you have to go out there and take it from them. I have to admit that whenever there is a backup under center and the pass/run balance surfaces I get frustrated because I believe that many of the past injuries are the unfortunate result of having had to 'put the team on your back', and if the opposing defensive coordinator has to guess then they can't stop you. I hope the game has slowed down for you and that your pre-snap reads come to you like neo sees the code lines of the Matrix. If you get to read this post while still at training camp I urge you to look toward the star of Bethlehem at night and say a prayer for your success, health, family, and well being. Believe me you are closer to the Lords ears at the Lehigh altitudes. im new to this but im glad i wil be able to see and listen to comments from u this year. its good to see u back from ur injury moving around and all. my favorite mcnabb moment was the dalls game when u ran around for 14 sec than threw a 60 yard pass to freddie mitchell. i dont know what its like to be a pro player but im trying to live that dream in bowling. i bowled my first 300 in april and now im about a year out of being pro. good luck to the up coming season i will be watching everygame biggest eagles fan

Donny Mac! You're lookin good this preseason. I had the opportunity recently to visit lehigh and check you guys out at training camp. I was pleased with the progress that I saw on the field, and I'm more hyped up for the season with each passing moment. I've been a fan of the eagles my entire life, and being that I was born in 1980, I have yet to see an eagles championship. I want to thank you though for bringing me the best football I've seen in this town in my lifetime. I think all too often the fans of Philadelphia can be overly critical of the work you've done here, but I have a long enough memory to know that we've never had it so good. 5-finger Chi-town, lead me to the promised land brotha.

I hope you read this message. I believe in you, and I know there are more than a couple good years left. That being said I sincerely hope you're not rushing back too soon.(You looked great Friday against Carolina) The guys that win in Nov and Dec are the ones that go to the game. Don't listen to anyone but yourself, and that includes me. So think it through and ask youself if it's not better for the team to let someone else start the season and start up after the bye week sometime. I can only cite Culpepper as an example. Either way it's a team sport and you're one heck of a team player and I'll be cheering from my Bark-o-lounger.

donnie mac...in 95 we actually played on the same field together (well i was redshirted), but i saw what kind of talent u had back then (i went to rutgers)...i remember when i bumped into u at a club in philly called PALMER'S when u first got drafted and i had a syracuse hat on...u were down to earth man-a really cool brotha...anyway, my pops and i have been routing for u since i left RU and i would like to say this....for such a stand up guy and rare talent, u face alot of negative criticism...it's gotta be puzzling to u because it is to me-but than i remember what u are...a humble, positive , winning black qb in the NFL who doesn't wind up in the papers for all that rah rah bs...make these cowards eat their words this year...God bless...GO IGGLES

Let's focus on the Lions. I know alot of talk not only this season, but in previous years has been on the separation that the wide receivers need to get and currently are not. This has been a theme of past seasons. Can you explain what Green Bay and Washngton did differently with man coverage and what adjustments you and the receivers need to do if Detroit also uses this strategy.

I want to commend you for being brave enough to speak your mind on the race issue (black QBs) and not backing down when the media challenged (or tried to intimidate) you into doing so. More Black athletes need to speak their minds and stand up for their beliefs rather than simply trying to stay in the clear. Maybe then we would be further along as a race than we are.
As far as football goes. I'm a life long Eagle fan from Brooklyn (yes, its tough), so heel up, stay patient and you'll be on top again.

Bravo, Bravo. I believe that statements you made are true. Nowadays they look for black quarterbacks to be able to scramble. If they do not have such an ability they go unnoticed. If anybody gives you any slack for your comments, they know its true. Black quarterbacks are considered more mobile and more athletic. While white quarterbacks are considered more accurate and smarter. Even if you and the Eagles part way sooner than you expect, there are plenty of teams that would kill to have your skill. You are a stand up quarterback and one hell of an athlete so, don't let them get you down. For your fans, just continue to do what you do so well and keep proving everybody wrong.

Donovan you need to stop blaming everyone else for your mistakes. It not the team that is contibuting to the loses it's your poor play. Now it could be that your not a hundred percent and if that's so maybe you need to take a seat and continue to rehab then come back when your healthy. By coming back too soon your only hurting the team, your reputation as a top notch quarterback and risking further injury to your newly repaired knee. I think that's what the fans would like to see a 100% healthy Mcknabb on the field not a 70% healthy Mcknabb. Do yourself and the team a favor and take a seat and get better.

I'm an Auburn fan from Auburn, Alabama. But, when it comes to the pros, Ive been an Eagles fan since birth up in N.J. McNabb, the best QB I've ever seen, I truly love watching him play. Hes number one, but watch out.. Tebow, I think, is the next McNabb!
