Tra & B-Dawk

I usually don't remark about teammates unless asked but I felt it was necessary to share my thoughts on a couple of teammates that are no longer in Philadelphia. I have been a part of the Philadelphia Eagles for 10 years and I have not played a game, attended a practice, sweated in training camp, built a playground or participated in a Carnival, and more importantly dreamed of a championship parade, without Brian Dawkins and Tra Thomas being a part of it. We all had a goal of bringing a championship to this city and while we didn't achieve that goal, we have had a lot of successes during our time together. I was always confident that Tra had my blindside. When he was out there it was one less thing to worry about. As for Brian, mere words cannot explain what he has meant to me, our team, and the City of Philadelphia. He and I shared many things besides a locker room. We shared a passion for the game, a desire to make a difference, and dreams for better things.

There may be other men to come in here and play these positions and hopefully we can share successes. I will always regret not having the chance to win a championship with these guys.

It is important to note that I also will miss playing with a few other guys as well. Correll Buckhlater, Lito Sheppard, Greg Lewis, and Sean Considine will all be missed and I do wish them all success.

However, since the letting go of BDAWK it has been quite tough to route for the team. Your comments are what we the fan base have been begging for from anyone in the organization. Donovan- The Andrews brothers will have your back from now on. You will be well protected. By the time the season starts you will have a new contract along with a new stud receiver and a young TE and RB from the draft. Everything will work out. Keep your chin up and remained focused on getting ready for the season. I have a feeling your best years are still ahead of you here in Philly.

I miss B-Dawk too Donavan. He was my first jersey I ever got. I know you can win a SB though. We just need a WR like Anquan and we can easily be a top team. We can also work on getting maybe one more linemen and a RB and TE.

it really sux don. i know what you wrote is only like 1% of what you actually feel, but i really admire you coming out and just expressing your gratitude to these guys who have been just as important to our success as you have. i know how hard it was for me and the fans to see these guys walk so i cant imagine how you feel about it. just love that youre a hell of a guy and made it a point to write about these men and how much they have done for us. good luck in whatever will come your way in the next few months don.

Classy response; but damn there isn't much positive to take out of that. Other players will step up in the absence of Dawk & Tra, and when it comes to the leadership they provided I hope you are leading that charge Don.

When Brian Dawkins left Philadelphia, it was as if Superman had left Metropolis. It's painful, and his loss truly signifies to me that this Eagles Era may be coming to an end. You weren't the only person to dream of a Lombardi, making its way down Broad Street, hefted into the air by Weapon-X, and Super-Five. The old echelon of Eagles are quickly fading away, replaced by the golden standard. The last draw, will be when the time comes for the McNabb Era to end. When that happens, my faith in the Eagles will be severely strained.
I will sorely miss Tra Thomas, who could be counted on to supply protection. I will sorely miss the legend that is Brian Dawkins, and made some of the biggest, bone crushing hits in recent times. I will sorely miss Correll Buckhalter, who was an explosive back, and widely underused in this tenure here.
Either way, I wish you the best of luck this year D-Nabb, and hope you remain our Quarterback here in Philly.

#5 Forever....I love my Eagles, and I too will miss Dawk, Tra Thomas, Correll Buckhlater, Lito Sheppard, Greg Lewis, and Sean Considine. But most importantly, I want to see the Eagles win that Championship and bring home the Lombardi Trophy. I really wish these guys could have done it. One of the reasons I love Sunday's so much is because of the Game, and to see my beloved Eagles take to the field :-)

For the first time since you took over, I find it almost impossible to shrug off some of the EAGLES offseason moves. Do you have any idea who'll replace Tra (William)? My hope is that you find a rhythm quickly with the new Tackles, and it doesn't mess with the 'pocket clock' in your head. Your calm has always served you so well here, and I would hate to see this organization foolishly toy with that, the way they did with your Offensive Line. It was wrong. Yeah it's a business, but it was wrong.

Everyone needs to stop blowing smoke.... McNabb is the best quarterback in eagles history, however we want that championship. McNabb needs to use his legs more.... That's when he is at his best. He has something most quarterbacks don't have and arm and legs. I also don't kno where everyone else is at, but I want mcnabb to post an article telling the fans what he thinks about what the eagles have done so far. I myself am buying a dawking bronco's jersey because he is my favorite player of all time. I just want to say McNabb if you went somewhere else I would route for you too, however your here now, so we are going to push you. It's time for you to change. Dmac, we're right there with ya. loosing guys like Buck and Dawk and Tra will be a hard pill to swallow come September. But i think Dawk will always be an Eagle. Even if he's wearing those silly colors when he comes back to the linc.
I sure do hope they get you a stud reciever for this season. look what happened when we had TO. at least for the first season..
btw, what are your thoughts on the Eagles website poll asking if they should resign TO? i thought it was a joke on PFT until i actually saw it..whats that saying GW screwed up so bad? "fool me once,...you can't fool me again"

and the other thing, while we all want, (and sometimes need) the Superbowl Championship, does anyone ever doubt that Dan Marino was one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL?

  OK but you also have to remember that at the end of his run, Lito did absolutely nothing for the team and Joselio hanson was our nickel. While I agree they havent had a good off-season so far, calling us hypocrites is retarded. Trading greg lewis is definitely the least of my worries, along with letting LJ go. Neither were able to perform the way we wanted them to. If they can go out and make a big trade then that'd make everything alot easier for all of us to deal with. Why don't you go figure out what football team you like before being an idiot and making fun of fans who are devoted to one team.

Great job the Eagles did of getting you weapons. Oh well it's not like you're used to having them anyway. Donovan, you are the all around BEST! Philly is the luckiest team to have you, probably the pro athlete with the most class in any sport. My son just bought an older Eagles print at a flea market - it shows his fave players, McNabb, Akers, Westbrook, B Dawk, and then it has Terrible One also on it. But he loves it, had to hang it in his roomn right away, down with Mickey Mouse - up with the Eagles. I'm proud of him! Keep being a positive influence for the younger generations, we need heroes!!

When we lost Dawkins, like other Eagles fans I fell apart, The only thing that kept me hopes up was knowing that you would still here to lead the team and as long as you will continue to work towards bringing a lombardi to Philly I can get over not having those other players not being here. (even though it will be hard)

While our QB laments how sorry he is he didn't win any championships with the now departed BDawk, Tra and the rest, he never seems to acknowledge the unyielding support by the overwhelming majority of Eagles fans who have stuck by him through thick and thin, in spite of no championship and his constant whining. His passive aggressive attitude toward the fans and management is wearing thin. Just suck it up my man....and win something!!!!!!!

While I agree, mainly with the case of B-Dawk, Eagles have always made these shrewd business moves. Dawkins could have accepted the offer the Eagles made, he watched out for his own self-which is completely understandable-and took the bigger bucks. Personally, I am not a fan of Tra's play over the past few seasons...then again, he isn't protecting MY blind side. Donovan, you are the man, and the guy I think who should be under center as an Eagle...always. Call out the front office again, Donovan...forget what the other people say. Demand them trade for Boldin...you and the rest of the team would be unbelievable with a guy like him.
You're the man, 5. Keep it up...bring Philly the SB home next season!

A message needs to be sent to the Philadelphia upper level management. They take the Philadelphia sports fan for granted. They assume that no matter what personnel decisions are made, Philadelphia fans will follow suit and continue to feed the organization with ticket and merchandise purchases. Upper level management believes that the blue collar town of Philadelphia just needs "a team" to rally behind, not necessarily a team which can be considered their own. Thrown to the wind are the notions of tenure, dedication, passion, and devotion; all qualities possessed by the majority of players released. Obviously the Philadelphia Eagles organization; albeit a football team, remains nonetheless a business, but what the upper level management does not seem to fear is the lack of a public backing. This becomes a problem because it simultaneously allows management to de-value integral players to the organization and allows management to lose respect for public opinion (which ultimately should run the decisions of the organization as since they are the source of the profit). The Philadelphia Eagles have weaned their fans into a brainwashed system: one that encourages saving salary cap room through the harvesting of young players and the release of dated players. This system has served as an undying excuse for personnel decisions in the past acting as an emotional novacaine for diehard fans. It is undeniable that as a business the Philadelphia Eagles ultimate goal is to win championships while conserving as much money as possible, but who will be there to enjoy the celebration when this ultimate goal is attained. Certainly not those blue collar workers who placed their emotions behind not just a few key players, but those who placed their emotions behind the collaboration of dedicated athletes who have endured years of "almosts" as well. The ultimate goal was to see "their team", the team that struggled and came close too many times to remember, finally reach the promised land. Now that the core of this team is being dismantled and dedication has become completely disregarded (through the release of long-time Philadelphia icons Tra Thomas and Brian Dawkins) who really wants to enjoy a Philadelphia Eagles championship orchestrated by a bunch of strangers?

I will truly miss Dawkins. He was one of my favorite players ever to put on a Philly uniform. While I did have the chance to meet tra thomas through Juan Castillo ( give him props ) I will miss brian the most. HIs intensity on the field was what brought so much force and strength to the Philadelphia defense. It will be different if runyan is still on the team and we dont see tra " big will" thomas lined up across from him. I always was relieved but also shocked to see him play through nagging injuries. He still stepped up and delivered a good shield for mcnabb. Both of those veterans will truly be missed. Good luck Donovan. We still rooting for you.

If the accountant/ manager Joe things that this team the way it is now, with addition of those draft picks will be good enough to make the playoff, he's very wrong. Accountant's way of thinking will do no good if you don't have skilled players to get you the necessary wins. The offensive line is a mess right now including the center because he gave up a lot of sacks, and he couldn't move the middle when it was needed. Wide receivers are not as good, if I'm wrong tell me how many touch downs was caught by the receivers then compare it to the teams that were in the super bowl. Not even close comparison. I can name one receiver that could be a great addition plus he had more touchdown than all the eagles' receiver combine last year, and that player is Anquan Boldin. I'm not even going to mention tight ends, even if you draft one there is no way a rookie tight end is going to shine in his first year. Running a successful team you need to be able to do both cap managing and good players selection. You can't be successful if you focus and one and then neglect the other. Patching up the team with questionable players that move is not considering good players selection. With this current team next year record will probably fall around 6-9 or most 7-9, either way still missing the playoff. No matter how good a coach is, he will not be able coach talent into someone who don't have talent. Remember the goal is to win the super bowl, not the cap bowl.

hey Don. i have some WRs already in the league whom many dont know about their potential.
1st.saints WR robert meachem you see what he did with limited playing time !!! 2nd 49ers jason hill a 4.3 posession WR who just needs reps. 3rd Reynard is ok. he has ability and can work back to you on the scramble.
if you cant get them then HOLT is your ONLY option to get you to the superbowl or at least put you in the same level as peyton,warner,brees and brady. ( even though you are ACTUALLY past their level, you just never had a loaded WR core & O-line & bruiser RB to ware down Ds in the 4th QT. )
unless you can SOMEHOW get the cards to trade MATT or something for YOU. the CARDS ARE LOADED on DEFENSE now as well as OFFENSE. PLUS you live there !
i would take a paycut JUST to get in that situation. we all see what it did for old as DIRT warner. LOL.

First big fan of yours as a man, and a the Quarterback for the Eagles. The deperature of Brian Dawkins hurts for his inspiration and leadership on game day and beyond, but the money he got from Denver was something he could not turn down.
As for the future it would be nice to see your managment team get you a reciever the caliber of Torry Holt or an Anquan Boldin while building depth through the draft. If you were to have a reciever the caliber of Holt or Boldin it would allow Curtis to move to the thrid reciever were he has most of his succes throughout his career. Holt or Boldin could be muster everything while Jackson could be used more reverses and trick plays while Curtis could be that guy over the middle.

Thank you for sharing your feelings about your former teammates. Dawk's loss was a painful one, but losing Buck is just as painful for me. I really wanted him to show what he could do in Philly. i am a huge mcnabb fan and he will win a super bowl before he ends his carrer i just wish the fans would stop getting hung up on old vets we let go the FO has proven to us time and time again that they know what they r doing when it comes to letting there talent go. Bobby taylor, troy vincent, duece staley, hugh douglas, trotter, all got the same response when they left town but the fact of the matter is they were done. i love B-DAWK but two years ago he had a neck injury that almost ended his carrer. doctors advised him to retire then and he didnt and had a great year and could have a decent one next season but he is a high risk player to give two years garunted money to i wish him the best and will miss him but its time to move on and hope jones can put up good numbers and we need to focus on signing weaver and focus on the draft

I truly believe if Andy Reid stop calling plays and hire a good offensive coordinator to call the plays we will actually win a superbowl. As for you McNabb work on your accuracy this off season brotha you had wide open recievers during the championship game who could have gotten YAC and possible touchdowns if you throw the ball where they can make it happen. Loose some weight in work on your condition this summer and start getting the ball out of your hand quicker three step drops. You where able to get in your rhythm quicker when you started doing that this year. I really think you are done with Philly and want too move on and if so do it and dont try to stay to please the coaches or no one if you are not happy at what you do or where you at make a change. We will miss you but you have to enjoy your job to give a great performance on the job. So just go to management and say its been good but i am ready too start a new mission with a new team. If they don't want to commit to what it takes then it will remain status quo, now they have so cap money to get this team over the top. The Eagles are a Cash Cow, and as long as they get to the playoffs and win 1 or 2 games and the fan base remains happy, they (the Front Office) will continue to do what they have been doing, which is bean count and remain millions under the cap. The are smart enough to know not to get rid of a QB (that's you Donovan) that is skilled enough to be considered one of the better QB's in the league so they can remain competitive. Winning the Super Bowl will only happen if this team catches lightning in a bottle, because it won't happen with the Eagles front office strategy. Every weakness the Eagles have can be addressed with the best free agents on the market because we have the cap room, but the front office doesn't use it, that's all the proof you need, and I refuse to subsribe to the character issue thing, that's why leaders in the locker room are important, even if you have to offer them more than their going market rate. Good luck Donovan because you are the best QB the Eagles have ever had.

If anyone from the front office is gonna read this... please for the love of god and all fans who bleed green, please get 5 the playmakers he wants. Make him and all of us happy. Tell me where we would be without our QB? Right back to the Detmer days, and no one wants that EVER again. I know this city is tough to play in and it might feel like everyone here is out to get you, but there are many of us out there who have your back no matter what D. Maybe i should start a fan club or something...call it- I didnt BOO on draft day and i never will. Ring or no ring you're the best QB this franchise has ever seen(no offense Jaws) P.S. i would prefer Ring!

Lets face it we need run blocking. Youth and and shear power is what we have now.We need someone who can cover deep since we can actually stop the run for once. B-Dawk was awesome but wasted half of his energy during warmups. Unless Westbrook stays healthy this year he won't be here in 2010. He didn't impress me last season.I could see us trading up to get a stud back in April. McNabb too is awesome. Has a cannon for an arm, but needs to have more touch on the shorter throws. Accuracy is also and issue.There is way to much stopping, diving, or coming back to make catches. I would love to see him hit more guys in stride. I'm not sure if it is the scheme or what but our recievers don't seem to get many Y.A.C.

d mac let me say that you are one of the many reasons i like the birds. when the going gets rough for some reason it all gets blamed on you. im not gunna sit here and say that i havent blamed things on you tht werent ur fault b/c i have. but i relized tht without u on the team we would be SO screwed its not even funny. you have put way to much time and efffort into the eagles organization tht its time they reward you with a superbowl ring. we cant accomplish tht dream or award if the dumbasses at the front desk dont get you a reliable and OUTSTANDING wide reciever...nothing against curtis,desean,brown,smith,celic,westbrook,basket....but we need someone who is gunna go out there and get the job done. so keep on fighting this battle and thng will get better for u donny. LET GO EAGLES!!!!!

Donovan... please request a trade. If the ownership/front office of this team had any class at all, Dawkins would still be here, and Thomas would have been offered at least a short term deal to stay until they had figured out who could replace him. At this point they've shown they don't give a damn about the players, fans, or game day employees, and I don't want to see you out on the field getting beat up for an organization that just doesn't care. You've always been a class act in this town, and I want you to play for a winning franchise, not one that lets people who've poured their heart and soul into the team just walk away. You deserve better on AND off the field.

  Wow, I guess I should clarify... Donovan, if the Eagles as an organization were truly committed to giving you the tools you need to win a Super Bowl, I would be all for you staying. You are my favorite QB, and the Eagles are my favorite team, but I just don't see them giving you what you need. Instead of adding parts to a team that was a step away from the big dance last year, they started stripping away integral parts like you guys had gone 2-14. It doesn't make sense. Not only that, but they did it in such a classless way that it makes me wonder how they'll show you the door. I wish nothing but success for you, and for the team, but the front office doesn't deserve a player with your class... same with Dawk and Tra. They pretty much pushed them out of town, and I'd hate to see it happen to you, too.

mcnabb this letter is not directed towards you.....as u already know tra thomas hosted a a set of events that were raising monet for central floridas youth.....it was my understanding that there going to SEVERAL eagles players there BUT when i went to the BBQ than was hosted at the deland high school football stadiam and PAYED MY 10 DOLLORS to get in i thought i was goig to see SEVERAL eagles players but instead i saw ONE eagle player that to be compleely honest with you might as well have not even been there....he and his people were complete ASSHOLES.....instead being able to go up to him and shake his hand he had already pre sighned the pictures.........it makes me FURIOUS that the amount of TIME MONEY AND ENERGY that i put into this team didnt mean anything to you guys....so instead of giving me what i paid for i ended up getting a hotdog and fries and a lowsy autograph by a player that doest even play for the eagles........ALL OF YOU NEED TO REMEMBER WHERE YOU CAME FROM....you all had idols and people that you looked up to.....im sad to say that after today i have lossed an imense amont of respect for you and the players that had SAID AND ADVERTISED that they where goin to be there.

I enjoy exposing the legions of mindless knuckleheads that are infatuated with this guy who hasnt won anything but NFC East titles...most of which were won when the division was the weakest in the league. Who ever thought that Eli Manning would win a Super Bowl before McChoke......and he did it the first time he had the opportunity....in other words....he didnt CHOKEEEEEE....If you gave almost any other QB in the league a chance to go to the Championship game 5 times you can bet that they would win at least one Super Bowl....anyway....let the uneducated masses continue to adore this false football god Mr. McChoke......the Birds will not win a SUper Bowl as long as he is on the field...PERIOD

MCNABB go to DENVER !!! they have good O-LINE & great WR core. marshell is a beast and royal seems to always be open.
Cutler wants a trade so you would be better off with 2 STUD wrs then just 1 Boldin and ok O-line philly might have.

that division is weak too. so GO MCNABB so you can win the MVP and SMASH peyton and brady's records to BECOME the BEST QB IN THE NFL !!!

Donovan, I hope the Eagles are able to get you some weapons for this coming season. With all this salary cap space they better be pursuing a big name receiver or TE via trade. We need players that can help us now, not later. You rejuvinated this franchise and it drives me crazy how some Eagles fans treat you. I can't wait until this season when you prove them wrong.

True, Dawkins and Tra were some of the best players in the NFL and especially leaders of the team. Tra blocked great this year and Dawkins was a huge motivator. I really cant picture him in a denver uniform, and even tra as well. But although we've lost these incredible players, we still got you. Donovan your a strong leader and an even better player. Even if you don't get the weapons you're looking for, you'll still be amazing, even though id be really nice if you did. Cant wait to see how you do this season, and as long as you stay in Philly, the Eagles will be a great football team

crabtree will be gone by the time we pick. SO these guys can get of the press,make the tough catch,run good Routes,and score a BUNCH if they had good QBs throwing to them. MCNABB HAS THE BEST TD/int ratio in history so NOW 1 or 2 of these guys can have that GREAT QB.

Donovan please just bear with us. We can't win without you. You are a tremendous QB and they need to do a better job of providing players around you. Desean is a great player but you need that imposing reciever that commands double teams and respect from the oppositions coordinators.

HEY DON ! i figured it OUT. the eagle's FRONT office has a TRAITOR who somehow STOPS the fans from enjoying a superstar WR for his career. if we dont get PRObowler BOLDIN when we have all this cap room,PLUS WR hakeem NICKS. then there is definitely a TRAITOR amongst the FO. SO please find out who he is SO the PHILLY FANS can be HAPPY we FINALLY have a PROBOWL WR for years to come !!!
