RIP, Harry
It's a sad day in Philadelphia. The Voice of the Phillies, Harry Kalas, has passed away. Like many others, I am saddened and have my own personal experience to share.
In one of my first few years in Philadelphia I was fortunate enough to meet Harry at an awards ceremony - I think it was the Wanamaker Awards. While I didn't know him at the time as the Voice of the Phillies, I was in awe of his regal voice from NFL and MLB highlight shows. At that awards event I listened to people talk about Harry in such endearing terms, that he touched so many lives. It was easy for me to see what so many others had already known. From that point forward, listening to his voice had taken on new meaning for me.
RIP, Harry

I grew up listening to Harry call baseball. This year will not be the same without that voice calling "this ball is outta here"
Thanks for remembering him, Donovan. -
Harry Kalas will be missed. This is a time when all fans can come together. I am a Mets fan and needless to say I do not like the Phils but I will miss Harry Kalas because he meant so much to the game of baseball. R.I.P. Harry Kalas you will be missed - Steiny

I agree with Donovan 100%, he and Harry both have alot in common to many of us here in Philadelphia. Two class acts that we have been fortunate to have "touched" our city. Our hearts are with you Harry......
-
It just shows how many peoples' lives Harry touched.
-
Nice article Mac5. Harry was special to all of us, but atleast we still have Merrill.
-
Classy!
-
Harry K's home run call is classic. As a philly sports fan, it's right up there with Zinkoff announcing Dr J at the Spectrum (Julius...Errrrrrrrvvvviiiiiiiiiiing!) and Merril Reese counting out the yardlines on big runs.
-
Nice Post Donovan, you're a class act and we can't wait till we see you again in action

He will definately leave behind a legacy that the next Phillies broadcaster of the day will never live up to.

Thanks for recognizing an icon Donovan. The man ment more to this city than baseball. He is the only thing that kept us fans going thru those losing seasons. Were really gonna miss him. Good luck this year Donovan.
-
I echo your sentiment D. I grew up in Scranton. About 2.5 hrs away from Philly. Listening to Harry growing up was magical. I as a fan appreciate hearing your thoughts on Harry. Enjoy the rest of your off-season.
