Let's Add Some Weapons
Now that the season is over and we are concentrating on 2008, I hope we are able to secure some playmakers in all three phases of the game. Maybe some of those playmakers are already on the roster but have struggled with injuries, myself included, that have held us back a little.
You can't argue with how the Patriots went outside their locker room and stocked up on playmakers last year. It certainly helped to have Randy Moss, Donte Stallworth, Wes Welker and Adalius Thomas making plays for them all year.
I'm surprised that anyone would have a problem with me, or anyone else in the organization, expressing a desire to bring in more quality players. We were 8-8. There is room for improvement. This is a competitive sport. It's about putting together the best players, the best team, and giving yourself the best chance to win.
We didn't disrespect anyone when we traded for Takeo Spikes or signed Kevin Curtis last year. I don't think the Patriots were being disrespectful to Troy Brown or Reche Caldwell when they brought in Moss, Stallworth and Welker. Over the past few years, when the 49ers added Nate Clements, the Seahawks added Julian Peterson, the Giants added Plaxico Burress, the Colts added Adam Vinatieri, it was in an effort to add playmakers. In each case the team identified a way to improve and they took action.
I don't think that's being disrespectful to any of my teammates. It's certainly not my intention. I bet that anyone who wants to see the Eagles win ? from Mr. Lurie, to the entire locker room, to every Eagles fan who bleeds green would agree.

Another burner to compliment Curtis would be great.

agreed!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks super5, I hope you have conveyed this sentiment to the staff and they pay attention to this with the fever of winning it all in the upcoming season...

Hey YouKnow:
You are the one that has to be kidding! When has Donovan ever whined. The man has never responded to anything without using the utmost dignity and respect to everyone on his team. So apparently you don't know. How can you expect the quarterback to do his job and lead receivers at the same time. I guess you want him to coach the entire offense and defense at the same time.
You must be a Dallas Cowboy fan because you don't know anything about football either.
If there was a speedster on the team that could go long then he wouldin't have to force balls to receveivers and be a one dimentional team
-
I agree with you TaskMaster, You Dont Know Youknow.

buddy, buddy please listen to what this man has to say.
when he says lead recievers, he meant in the literal sense as to throw it ahead of them so they can run after the catch not become a leader over them, which he should be anyway.
Kevin curtis is one of the fastest recievers in the nfl.
when you say "when has mcnabb whined" that really is the icing on the cake. WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN MAN! what were you doing during our 2005 season with TO. mcnabb complains to the media about TO because he is afraid to comfront him himself! and also recently with the HBO interview. he decides to play the race card right before our season starts, even though it appeared two weeks in. what so called LEADER of a football team does this?

When was the last time you watched Eli? Close your eyes and throw the ball very high so your 6'6" receiver can bring it down. Who's making who. And he's in the Superbowl! And you probably played before right :) I'm tired of all you hatiin ass fans. The mans one of the best QB's ever hands down. No MOSS... no Play makin reciever. Oh... when he had T.O. 's ass he took him to his only superbowl and he didn't play in a damn Playoff game... oh we forget that right. And then this guy has the nerve to cry on National T.V. (I think he's Bi-Polar) and say That's my QB... but it was OK to throw 5 under the BUS.... PLEASE!

this is redic. your pretty much saying if the eagles win, or play well in the passing game, credit the recievers, and if they play poorly, credit mcnabb. thats not fair at all to the guy. go to an eagles game, and try to find an open reciever other than westbrook...you won't have much luck.
-
Right, go back to your damn losing seasons... Let me see .... 2 - 14 was it, I say trade em so dumb asses like you can have their wish!
-
YouKnow,
U know nothing, D-Mac is not whining but stating a fact. We need more receivers. Like taskmaster stated you MUST be a Cowboys fan or even worse, a bandwagon fan. Don't post anything next year when we bounce back and take the NFC back. Being critical is one thing, being negative without providing solutions is just another example of how little you know and pay attention to our team. Did you even grow up in Philly ?? -
You Know, you are an idiot. Who has the most passing yards of any Eagle Qb? McNabb. Who has the most passing touchdowns of any Eagle Qb? McNabb. Who got us closer than any other Eagle team to a Super Bowl Championship? McNabb. The 1 year we had a legit #1 reciever, we went to the Super Bowl. Our #1 last year (Stallworth) is at BEST a #3 or 4 in NE. Our #1 this year (Curtis) was a #3 in St. Louis. And look at some of our best recievers from years past. Pinkston, Thrash, what have they done since leaving the eagles. NOTHING!! McNabb actually makes these guys look good. Get us a legit #1 reciever and a good TE and watch out. Anyone who wants to get rid of McNabb would be sorry if that ever happened.
-
HERE'S SOME STATS FOR YOU:
AJ FEELY: 5 TD 8 INT 61.2 PASSER RATING
KEVIN KOLB: 3 ATTEMPTS 2 SACKS -2.7 YDS PASSING
MCNABB: 19 TD 7 INT 89.9 PASSER RATING
CARSON PALMER 26TD 20 INT 86.7 PASSER RATING
FARVE 25 TD 15 INT
VINCE YOUNG 9 TD 17 INT
BY MY CALCULATIONS MCNABB DIDN'T HAVE A BAD YEAR (CONSIDERING HE PLAY ON ONE LEG FOR HALF THE SEASON) -
it's true with those numbers, but it doesn't show how he was a stiff for all those games and sacks, fumbles, which by the calculations was a bad year. Still, McNabb is the #1 guy, right after Westbrook.
-
Come on dude. have you ever played football? to sum it up; look at the one year where Super 5 had T.O.- most yards thrown; most completions, etc.. and we went to the Super Bowl: The blue print is there. McNabb is the same Quarterback he was then - but the receivers are not. The Eagles need to follow that blue print to win again. There is a big dfference between whining and wanting to win. Winners - Leaders speak up. Whiners tell leaders to stop complaining.
2 Keys to start winning - Receivers that can separate and Faster Offensive Line. -
have u ever played football u bum..dont talk trash on someone who has taken us to 4 nfc championshi games and a superbowl.. go learn the game and play ur whole life like a lot of us and then maybe u will realize we have one of the best in the league.. dont come on here and bash mcnabb bc u sat the bench...
-
Your crazy what we need is a receiver that can get some seperation.look when he had owens he got us to the super bowl, when he had stallworth he was having a great year untill he got hurt.if we had a real #1 receiver they could push kevin curtis to the slot and he can be a wes welker that is what he is best at.and McNabb probaly dosent want to throw when they dont have a little separation, because they havent helped him much most of the year.and he dumps it off to westbrook because he trust him and he can count on him to make a play when they need it.
-
No no no... homie we ain't taken this shit anymore. How long as your brilliant ass been watchin football. This debate is old and it stinks!!! The man and the QB is makin good no excellent business sense and like always, he has found a very thoughtful way of presenting himself. Stop all of the DAMN hatin
-
There is no way the Pats will be able to keep all three star recievers (Randy Moss, Wes Welker, Dante Stallworth). One of them got some 110 catches and the other broke the darn TD records and the third is pretty datrn good too. I say we go HARD after anyone of them after they win the superbowl :). This will be a huge addition to the Eagles and Donovan will definiatelly use them real good BABY! Come'on Let's do something and get some playmakers.
-
BUT! the last thing philly needs is another diva like chad johnson to come in here and start complaining about how doesnt get the ball more, remember, donovan likes to spread the ball around. and thats a good thing. what donovan needs is someone like a bernard berrian or a larry fitzgerald
-
I think the problem is these cowboy fans giving stupid advice and pretending to be EAGLES fans. McNabb is the leader of the EAGLES and as such deserves more weapons.(wide receiver)McNabb talk to your people make it happen.Respectfully Mr. C
-
I agree whole-heartedly, Donovan. The damn front office isn't doing anything to help you when you are the franchise QB. This is ridiculous.
-
If you stomp your feet loud enough, somebody in the front office could hear you.
I'm not sure if you saw this, but a user on here made a prank that you were traded to the Miami Dolphins. What would you do if that happened? -
Brian Westbrook is great, but the Eagles could definitely use a great middle field threat.
Just beat the Skins. -
Some weapons would be great, a deep threat WR would help Curtis or Reggie kill teams in the slot! And if LJ departs due to free agency, a good TE would be excellent -- or do they think that Celek is the man? Not to mention some help to shore up that D
-
If you watched the Phily games i seen then yes Mc has all the right to want more. Now if your a true Phily fan you hate T.O. but you all know that McNabb to Owens was a Great thing. Mc could be the NFL MVP if... you can bring in the right weapons.. Like lets say a Jevon Walker or a hot wide out in 08's draft.
-
Check out my thoughts on chad Johnson....just wrote an article on that....McNabb is awesome as always....the Don and the rest of the screaming eagles will be a force next year.......bring in the young talent whatever it takes....but the NFC is gonna have a big wake up call next year!
-
Donovan,
Amen to that!
It is really terrific that you're voicing your opinion regarding securing some playmakers for 2008, especially on the offensive side of the ball. We all saw how effective you were with Donte' Stallworth and especially Terrell Owens catching deep balls down the field. It is truly essential to add someone with the same ability and intensity to make the Eagles offense as dangerous as it has been in the past. Unfortunately, many of us aren't confident that Andy Reid feels the same way.
If there is any possible way you can use your leverage to push the issue with the Eagles front office, please do so. I can't help but remember how Tom Brady restructured his contract this year to assist in making the deal for Randy Moss to New England happen, basically doing what he could to help the team win. Now I imagine the Eagles will have plenty of room under the cap this year without needing a financial cut from you… (which none of us would ever ask you to do)... but if there is anyway you can help convince the front office that these weapons are needed, it would payback ten-fold for you, the team, and the fans.
Thanks for sharing Donovan! Best!

actually if you look at his numbers he was having a pro bowl year with stallworth...you failed to rememer that the eagles were 4-1 at one point and then the defense started blowing games for the offense i.e. at tampa bay.
-
MCNABB THREW TWO PICKS VS TB
if you call allowing a 62 yard fg bad defense when they started at their own 40, idk what is. -
Kruntz,
People are going to believe you have a hidden agenda if you chose to ignore the facts regarding McNabb's success that was achieved while Donte' Stallworth was an Eagle. If you don't trust the words of Dizzle42187, maybe you'll have more faith in these other sources:
''McNabb was having an MVP season before he got hurt''' -Newark Star Ledger
''McNabb was a leading candidate for MVP''' -Associated Press
''As much as Jeff Garcia made headlines after McNabb went down, many forgot that McNabb was enjoying an MVP type season.''' -Field Position
''McNabb was back to playing at an MVP level after Terrell Owens and a sports hernia disrupted his 2005 season, and the rest of the team hopped on his broad shoulders. '' -ESPN
The truth is McNabb enjoyed MVP like numbers which continued well into the Eagle's losing streak... when their defense found themselves struggling against ''the run''. Debating is fine, but let's be real while we're doing it.
-
yet somehow, someway garcia comes in and is able to find a way to win games...
-
Oh how we forget. With Stallworth Donovan was having Pro-Bowl year until his injury. Learn your facts before making statements.
-
You can't be from Philly... not even Philly fans and that stupid! You probably play soccer :)
-
Good post and great insight. #5 was good when he had weapons. I cant argue with that.
But this leads me to the CHICKEN and EGG question of which came first! Good thoughts though... real good! -
Thanks!
-
you do realize that you just called james thrash, todd pinkston, greg lewis, and duce staley weapons
-

the true fans don't root for players they root for the team. so i believe no matter how impressive a player may be fans won't miss them if we bring in someone that can help us win. there is no lombardi for second place. that's all this city wants. we've been to the playoffs and the show but it's time to win it and win it honestly. we don't need to be cheap in the off season we need to max out our potential every year because we're past due for our Championship. GO BIRDS!

D-
First off, I've been waiting for this moment. I've been waiting for the state-of-the-5 address, haha. Thanks for the words of wisdom, they don't fall on deaf ears, not when you bleed green like we do. That's right, sound the alarm, I said "WE". You are just as much a fan as we are, probably more. You don't want to leave the Birds, you're an EAGLE. Your date with destiny is just around the corner, and for real, let's add some playmakers, 100% agreed.
I dont know what the front office is brewing up right now as the Divisionals take place and we fade into the backdrop for a few months. Then BAM, it's March 1st and the NFL world goes bananas. Let's hope the Birds' brass is the fuckin gorilla gettin those bananas.
Wow, that was off the wall, and you know why? Because since I was about 9 years old, I've watched the Eagles win, lose, celebrate, cry, bond, build, dismantle, construct, develop, regress, reach the peak of the mountain, and stumble on the steps of glory. From Randal, to Hoying, to Peete, to Detmer, to Pederson for cryin out loud-- you were and are the best of all of them. Some may argue that Randal was better, but you are obviously a more prolific passer, and plenty of numbers support that.
My point is, in my generation, you ARE the success of the Eagles. I'll be 25 this year. I'm ready for you boys to shine. B-West, the Big Kid, Dawk, Lito, Cole, and my boy Q, I love Q. You guys are small pieces away from blowin teams out of the water. And you know what helps D-Mac? More weapons.
Amen baby.
-
Have a safe, healthy, and fun off-season. See you at camp when summer rolls around. And thanks for the QB's towel. I got it the last day of camp when the team ran around the perimeter and slapped hands with the fans. You tossed your towel up and I snagged it. Thanks for the memory man, and thanks for being our QB. Now and always.
-
It'd be great to see Chad Johnson or Larry Fitzgerald come to town. Cincy and Arizona both have two Pro Bowl-quality WRs with good depth behind them. I'm sure one of the teams would spare a WR to get a high draft pick to help their D. Although, that seems like an unlikely scenario. I just pray the front office doesn't wait until draft day to get you a playmaker.
Have a great off-season, Donovan. I hope the media lets you take a well-deserved, relaxed vacation. -

you need a good i mean good WR !!!!!!! the front office needs to step up & recognize that. YOU are one of the reasons i LOVE this team. YOU have always been one of my FAVE players EVER ( trotter being the other lol) you have class, you keep a smile on your face - even when ppl. try to take that smile away. YOU are 1st class all the way and that's one of the things that is SORELY missing-INTEGRITY (spelling) specially in the front office. NOT YOU, the front office. they need to step up get you some good WR's (curtis aside i dig him) and naturally westbrook, but he cannot carry the whole team - at times it seems you & him do just that!!!
i would like NOTHING MORE THEN FOR YOU TO STAY HERE TILL U RETIRE......i hope the front office reads this stuff-as for the guy above who posted about the user that put on here the "possible" dolphins deal..........if & if that is where you are headed then i will understand why.....you deserve a superbowl ring, you deserve a front office and a coach that will RESPECT!!!!!!! that will step up & pay what they need to pay to get you your weapons of mass destruction. you are a force that's for sure Donovan & you always will be no matter what team you play with..........i'm hoping it's philly but if it's not then so be it :) !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
Just wanted to say thanks for the season. You go through a lot of crap that this town puts out and you deal with it with class. People here dont understand or appreciate how good of a qb you are. The moment you leave, if you leave that is, we will be a lock for a lottery pick. Kolb is not ready to be a qb anywhere, let alone here, where it takes talent and brains to run the offense.
I agree completely with bringing in more weapons. No one needs to be offended by that statement. I mean which one of our recievers that is going to the probowl can be upset with that comment? Oh wait, we have no probowl recievers. And which one of our probowl linebackers, safties, corners, Dline can be upset by that comment? Oh wait, we have no probowl defensive players. So what is wrong with bringing in some probowlers? Its the NFL, its a business, its a job. Players get paid plenty of money to go out and perform. In the real world you fire people that keep your business mediocre. Same rule applies in the NFL. Our return game was sad, I mean Reno did his thing and didnt fumble, but he is not a game breaker, most playoff teams have game breakers, and you cant put b west back there. How many returns for TD's did our D have last year? Yeah, i thought so. We need to improve. No one on that roster is safe except for a few people.
But we better go out and get some help now. Andy, time to take another risk, damn the consequences. Balls to the wall attitude is the only one left. We have too many veterans that are at the end of the rope not to do all out. Our O line has one or towo good years left. Bwest wont be around forever. Lets do it now damn it.
I -
It's just so confusing as an Eagles fan watching the Patriots succeed with Stallworth and Gaffney. Two guys who seem like they would have helped you much more this year than Baskett or Lewis did, or even Avant for that matter. Was it West Coast learning difficulties with Gaffney??
