My 2 Cents on Fans, TEs, and Trot
It was nice to finally get out there in a game situation last week. I liked the way the team responded to the excitement in the atmosphere. For a preseason game, the fans were amazing and me and the other guys fed off that energy. Keep it up!
I've had a number of people ask me about the tight end situation. Matt Schoebel and Brent Celek played well the other night. It was nice for Matt and me to hook up on that long pass (I teased him about not getting into the end zone!). Brent has looked good for a rookie and will continue to improve. What we need is for L.J. Smith to come back healthy. He is a great weapon and gives our offense a dimension that cannot be duplicated by anyone else.
Before anyone asks, I think we will miss Jeremiah Trotter. I will miss him as a good friend. He's also a great player who played with great emotion that other players fed off of. You can not have enough players like that. Like L.J., he brings something to the table that cannot be duplicated by anyone else.

Today is a sad day in Eagle nation, Trotter left a lot of heart out there on the field and will be missed. I hope LJ will be able to return as the valuable weapon he is, I'll pray for his recovery and that the injuries don't get reaggrivated.
-
Sad day, I don't understand why we got rid of Trot, but I wasn't extremely happy about it.
He was one of my favorite players, and I am not sure what the plans are without him. -
I see Trotter ending up in New orleans along with former Eagle castoffs Hollis Thomas, Mark Simoneau, and Dhani Jones. Hey #5, can Celek continue to play this well during the regular season? I hope so, because L.J. is certainly no lock being healthy for 16 games now. Right?? And if Westbrook goes down, do the Birds have enough depth at runningback?
-
Forgot to say good game last week Donovan. You looked very solid. I have been saying that you should wait until week 8 to play your first game. Also nice seeing you laugh it up with Kolb on the sideline too.
-
Yo Donovan - good to see you out there in action - great start to the comeback. I've known several folks with sports hernias who have struggled to make it back primarily due to the fact that it's an injury that often feels healed long before it is. I had one buddy who swore he was healthy and then aggravated the injury worse than it was the first time. You really think he'll be back in time for the regular season. I hope for the team's sake he does because I too think he's an undervalued cog in the offensive engine. Anyway - to see what folks are predicting you'll do, what L.J. will do, & what all the Eagles will do in week 1 & beyond, check out http://ffcollective.com

Hey Snoop, good thoughts. But Donovan isn't trying to come back from the hernia...he did that last year. This is from the knee injury he sustained last season against the Saints. The hernia, which is two years removed, is fine...at least from what I have heard. Now, L.J.'s hernia...that's another story.

Yeah, Donovan I really hope you have good enough fortune to stay healthy this season. When healthy there is no question that you will dominate games from the beginning to end of the season. Keep it up and good luck.
-
Congratulations on your return and playing well the other night. It was great to see you move around and setting before the throws (even taking a hit every now and then) without any signs of a lingering injury.
I am sure you enjoyed being back on the field. It is great to have #5 back for Philly.
Trotter will be missed, but hopefully he will pick up with another team soon. -
Trotter was one of the leaders of the team...a veteran that commanded much respect from the younger defensive players. I am certain he will be missed more in the locker room than on the field. He has lost several steps over the past few years and, unfortunately, this decision was the best one for the Eagles. I've read several blogs that bash Reid and the front office on this subject...that they have no loyalty to their players, etc. Quite the contrary... making these tough decisions is what winning is all about. And I'm sure Andy was very torn making this one.

Im just gonna miss trotter running out of the tunnel with the Eagle's flag in hand, and the axe dance after a sack. Maybe you should do the axe dance after a TD pass or something Donovan. That would be cool

sorry about the comment above.
-
This is truly a sad day. It will be hard to watch the defense, especially the line backers if fifty-four isn't doing the axe chop. Jeremiah is great and emotionally for the defense he cannot be replaced. With that being said transitions like this usually go good for the Eagles. I feel that Omar, while he won't be able to be that emotional leader that Trot was, he may be able to make more plays by starting.
-
Yeah Donovan, even the majority of us who don't know Trot personally can recognize the intensity and emotion he brought to the team. That kind of personality is infectious and seemingly really positive to have around. It will be difficult to see him play for another team (if that's where his future lies) like it was with Troy Vincent.
Otherwise, while Matt and Brent have been terrific, I believe we're looking forward to L.J.'s healthy return almost as much as you. :) Stay well. Best..
-
Donovan: you haven't commented yet on any post to your blog, maybe this could be your first?? What do you think about Eli's comments regarding Tiki's departure from the team? When you made similar comments when TO went down, I felt you were just trying to motivate the other WRs to step up their performance. The Eli situation feels different to me...bordering on disrespectful. Thoughts???
-
I should clarify that Eli's comments in early July that the Giants will be just fine without Tiki appear to have been the catalyst for the current firestorm here in NY. Eli couldn't shine your shoes.
-
The Eagles are an emotionless bunch of businessmen. As a fan, it's tough to MMQ Reid's/Banner's decisions, but as a player and a teammate, it's got to be brutal. I reallize you can't really say what you truly want to, and are compensated well enough to swallow your pride, but with the way Trotter was thrown to the curb, ouch.
-
I don't think that specifically applies to the Eagles...That is the way all professional sports are...Especially top American pro sports. Sometimes because of the salary cap, people tend to think that it is different for the players and coaches in the NFL; easier to stay loyal because the money situation is different, but it is the same everywhere. Many players get caught up in saying something from the heart, and the national media eats that up and throws it back in their faces, so I can see why Donovan did not want to make a personal comment about it.
-
How can you say emotionless? They could have told him to pack up and go, with no chance to address the team, and, through the media, his fans. They clearly didn't want to do this but felt they had to. Unfortunately, when you separate the emtion from the reality, more often than not (exception - Derrick Burgess) they are right when they let someone go. Doesn't mean it doesn't hurt, though
-
Trotter and Dawkins are to the Defense what you and Westbrook are to the offense - motivational, inspirational, gifted and excellent athletes.
-
I am so happy that you are back. Unfortunately, I don't like football so I don't watch it, my husband said you looked great. I wore my Eagles Jersey 3 days in a row. Good luck in the future.
-
You don't like football and you don't watch it, but you're happy he's back? LMAO! What a great comment, I love it! I definitely gave you a thumbs up.
-
hey! she means well! she wore her Eagles jersey 3 days in a row! that's good luck..especially if you don't wash it!! :)
-
I did not wash the Eagles jersey. I figure it would give McNabb good luck especially since I don't watch the game. I am willing going to try it and see if I like it.
-
The thing I will miss most from trotter is his energy. He was getting old, so other people can replace him at middle linebacker. It's Trotter's other job, giving his teammates energy, that I worry can not be replaced. After Dawkins, he was second in command on that defense. We'll have to see what happens.
-
A, look its the eagles... Say no more... It seems like 4 ever, that my teams has been making moves, that we fans in philly scratch our heads about... It is what it is...

it is a sad day indeed for Eagles fans...we will miss Trotter and the energy that he brings to the defense. I have enjoyed watching him play over the years.
Donovan, I wish you a very healthy and successful season...do what you do best on the field and that is win football games so you can get that -
Good Game Friday !! I hope LJ gets back soon but I hope he won't rush it ! Yeah Trotter is real cool so I wish him all the best.
I hope those other RB's can step it up and help B-West too. -
Adios, #54...WE WILL MISS YOU!!!
-
So was Trotter's parting comments the classiest you've ever seen by a guy who was just, surprisingly, cut? Add in guys like McNabb and the Eagles continue to show that they have a team comprised of good people, starting with the coach. And to some fans, like me, that matters a lot.
-
Agree. Class act all the way. Ditto 5, BWest, Dawk and the front office. You might not always like what they do or have to say, but they are respectful and know how to lead/manage.
-
J Trott deserved better, period. I hope that if he decides to play again that he does not sign with any of the division rivals. While its a part of life, it could have been handled in a better way. Today I am still having trouble digesting it!
On another note I finally was able to see Super5 in action on the NFL network reply. Outstanding job out there. Way to come back strong. I know its a slow process, but you seem to be on your way to complete recovery. You've always handle yourself the right way. Keep on doing your thing.
With you back at the helm, its going to be a great year. -

your just upset because you dont have a QB that is at Donovans level, and i bet Don could hold a extra point if he had too Romo lover
-
I will miss Trotter and Dhani... For the ladies... Dhani look darn good on the cover of Essence...
-
Yes it is sad to see a player go, one of witch that is a legend at his position here in philly. But no one can ever take that away from trott. And we philly fans will never let him forget what he has done for us. But i trust andy reid and the moves that he makes. After all he did draft YOU and westbrook and reggie brown, so i still belive in all of you to pull through this and maybe even get stronger!!!!! GO EAGLES!!!!!!!
-
i agree with you that it is a sad day in philly; my grandson was asking me that too, since he was one of his favorite player and he's a very die hard eagles fan..he will be missed, but like i told him; he's better off getting cut now, he will have a chance with another team that really needs him..he's a true defensive player that goes all out everytime he's on the field. i just hope he catches on with another team and shows the eagle that he still got it..
-
There's nothing like seeing #5 come out of that tunnel at the linc! Great to see you back on the field. Watch out for those Steelers DT's, they've been known to roll up on opposing QB's legs. Also, look out for Steely McBeam, something doesn't seem right about that guy.
Its nice to see a little depth at the TE position. LJ is definitely a playmaker, but if he has to take his time coming back you have some guys who can fill in nicely.

it sucks trot had to go i think that is sad that he left but the team will pull through
-
Its funny how fans try to give a professional football player advice. Haha. I'll miss Trotter. GO EAGLES!

Mr. McNabb,
believe me we will be cheering this year no matter what. Your a savior to our city, and i just know in my heart you will win atleast one superbowl. I never met Trot, but i feel like I lost a good friend. I walked around with my head hanging all day, just like a good buddy just moved away. I hope the best for him, but in my heart I dont want to see him in any uniform but here. I think things might work themselves out and a couple mistakes or injuries could have Bad Andy asking for his assistance. Keep it rolling, you look great and confident behind center. As for the tight end situation, I am rooting for LJ too, but it looks like all three men have great hands. And I know you love your tight end. Just catch that ball boys. Thanks for writing... -
you the man Don, continue the progress and success on Sunday against Pitt. Show them whats up!
-
Go 5, I was excited to see you looking so good at camp and after last Friday nite I have no words to express how good you looked, maybe FANTASTIC!!!!! Keep it up, lookin good. On Trot I frankly was not surprised by the move, he is a great guy and I am sure he was also great in the room, but he has not looked nearly as good recently and like Vincent maybe it was just time. Can't wait to see the ring on your finger, keep the faith and go 5.
-
you looked great in the game vs the panthers, i cant wait to see what you and Curtis can do together. I have been one of your biggest fans from your orange men days, go rip the league a new one this year. Canada loves ya
-
I think it's a shame that Trot is gone. It has put a damper on my excitement about the upcoming season. I guess we'll get over it, just like we have in the past, but it seems so unfair.
