Thanks for Keeping Me Focused!
Many of you were right on with your comments. In my excitement to start the season I talked about the hard work and the ultimate payoff - the Super Bowl. My adrenaline was pumping. At the moment I sat down to write the blog it got the best of me. But, what had made us so successful over the years has been the one game at a time approach. So the focus now is the Washington Redskins.
Since the game in Green Bay I had a few days off and was able to take care of a few things, get in a few workouts and get ready for the next game. Today we received our game plans and now the concentration is solely on the Washington Redskins. They are a tough team, they are strong on both sides of the ball. They have outstanding players on defense and Gregg Williams is one of the best coordinators in the NFL.
I'm glad to see Reno Mahe back. He led the NFL in punt returning last year so I'm surprised at the people that think he's just back there to catch the ball and that's it. He almost always makes a positive play. Plus, he's a great teammate with an outstanding work-ethic.

First things first, Mr. McNabb, why haven't you been in new Chunky Soup commercials?
-
Fantasy aside, good luck this week, even though I am up against ya....
-
Wow, I didn't know Reno Mahe lead the league in returns. Nice, one of those under the radar stats, and he doesn't turn the ball over which is the most important stat right now. As tough as the loss was, I was still excited to see the team win the time of possession battle and maintain a balanced attack even after falling behind 10 points. That is the tricky part with running the clock, keeping the turn overs minimal as the offense will have less opportunities to score than they did in the past. It looks like the defense is going to benefit from the subtle game plan changes already and I think it will take this team a long way.
Here is the real issue though, we all now know the Patriots robbed us and after reading the statements from yourself and various other team leaders I assume you guys all agree. I don't mean to take anything away from the week to week mentality but I haven't felt this good about the Eagles chance of winning it all since that season, so take from that what you will. Thanks for blogging! I really appreciate it your taking the time out of your busy schedule to let the fans know what is on your mind. I still say this is the year! -
Tough loss last week. Better luck this week against the 'Skins.
As a Ravens fan and a Syracuse fan, it will be doubly nice to see you beat Washington.
Good luck; stay healthy. -
You guys should be okay if Westbrook is able to get it going, he singlehandedly won a Fantasy Football championship for me last year. Things like that mustn't go unsaid lol
-
Redskins are confusing to me. They seem like they got a lot of talent but never live up to expectations. Why do you think this is? And whats your take on the Bill Belichick cheating situation? I know it must suck to think that your shot at a Super Bowl might have been robbed by a cheater.
-
Good to see that focus 5, Do your best that's all we can ask for ya dig.
Truth
-
Keep your head up! Have a good game.
-
Man, I hate the Eagles, but I can't help but to root for you, because you are a Chicago boy. I wish all the best for you man. All that I can ask is that you bring your best when you play the Cowboys. Cause we comin after ya!
-
ah 5,we love ya man!! first game is always tough.it has been awhile since you have been on the field and you guys were playing a tough defense..you will be FINE.. faith in # 5..cannot wait for monday night..
-
I'm just glad you're back!
-
I have to say you are looking good. I know you guys are gonna bring it Monday and i cant wait!! God Bless.
-

-
You guys will do just fine as long as the team stay focus and come out rumbling to play football, the redskins has nothing on the eagles and your confidence must stay high, the eagles are a tight and grounded team and Go Eagles you will be winners
-
I Know i can see an MVP season this year
-
So I guess that means the team will go 15-1....Right? Good luck on Monday night, there is a reason why you guys have dominated the Redskins(7-1 last 8 meetings). Establish the run, short passing game, then open up the downfield plays. Best of luck.
-
Mcnabb good luck on monday. Go kick some skins butts. I'm glad Mahe is back, and I didn't know he lead the league in returns either. Well, thats good to know. You looked good from what I could see. Kick your head up. I'm willing to take it one game at a time. I'll be watching monday and so will my dad who is a skins fan. There are 4 eagle fans here though. The skins may have a really good team but I don't think they know how to work as a team or something because once the regular season starts they tend to forget what to do. I don't know they are confusing that;s for sure. Well good luck. I know you and they Eagles can do this. GO EAGLES!!!!!
-
i agree with you 100 percent , that it should be a 1 game at a time approach..
and also,welcome back Reno Mahe..
i have all the faith in the world that you and the rest of this great team will come together on monday night..
you looked very good in the opener, more mobile than i think i expected as well..
im excited about this season and especially this week against the skins...
and get well quick Lito.... -
Yes please, I already lost last weeks pick vs greenbay!!! I am putting in my vote for Philly this week, but that new redskin QB can throw!! Watch out for the D McNabb. Use those legs!
-
OK, so we got off a little slow. This is a new week and we have seen what we need to do. We have Reno back (nothing against Reed or G Lew) and we know the weapons we already have. Now all we need to do is focus and get it together and win. Scramble, 5, scramble. Eagles 27, Skins 10.
-
Give it to Westbrook!
-
You are a powerful man! Power is the result of purpose! You have purposed in your heart to feamin focused & that is a testament to your indomitable spirit!
God Bless you Donovan, for you are a champion. Your good soul, talent, & strength of character shines through in all that you do. I believe, we've only seen the tip of the iceberg with you! Now:
you must take real good care that BODY TEMPLE because the entire city of Phila. and all of your fans everywhere want you healthy, strong, vibrant and rejuvenated for the next game.
BREATHE & KNOW How truly awesome U R!

As you've seen, Eagles fans just want a winner sooner than later and our passion spills over whenever we see a disaster like Green Bay. That said, have you seen the Onion.com parodying Eagles fans' demands for a championship by week 3? Hilarious! If you haven't, I think you'd get a kick out of it -- http://www.theonion.com/content/news/eagles_fans_give_mcnabb_three_week

Well put McNabb, thanks for putting some of us in check (myself included). It's just the first game and I like to see you guys give it your all, win or lose. Keep the arm live and have a great season. You're always money on primetime. Good luck this week.
-
I like the one game at a time apporach to the season. The goal is to get better each time you play. It looked like you, the team, and the coaches were offensively tentaive against Green Bay. If you play with 'intelligent aggression' and trust in your ability to make positive things happen based on what's in front of you everything will be fine. Keep pushing!
-
yeah man great to have mahe back. you might have had to call Reno 911
-
You will be ok and the team will do great things this year.. Stay positive!
-
Yo whats up thanks for the response. Im glad to see you really listened to me. I know all the smilin and stuff is who you are. I geuss i meant we,as in all the fans, in my opinon, would love to see you get fired up. We all wanna see that DOG in you.(as TKO would say) But by all means be your self, but dont forget to bring out that dog when ever you see fit. And dont worry, my pops and I are cheering all season,no matter what. So remember that when your droping back and slingin that pigskin. BEAT THOSE REDSKINS!!!!! Get "The Invisible Man" a touchdown or two!!!!.......God bless and goodnight.

Mcnabb,Mcnabb,Mcnabb.........
-
ah man why will reid not run the ball to give you a chance to get back to form??when you went down they ran the ball a lot..did buckhalter even make a play other than the return??we have to soften up the defenses by running the ball at them..sorry about the boo birds they make me cringe with shame! you are the best quarterback the eagles have seen in the modern era of eagle history so do not let them get you down!you have taken us places we could only dream about !!! love to # 5
-
Donovan! I know you are going to do whatever you can to win a championship in Philly this year but COME TO CHICAGO NEXT YEAR! WE LOVE YOU HERE!!! Thanks.
-
Hey, the fans boo because they are disapointed. I cant blame them cause i was disapointed. If your a true eagles fan you better be disapointed. And mcnabb i hope you too are dissapointed. We the fans support the team so much, we are there at training camp by the thousands, we are allways pumping things up with the fight song, we buy all the mechindise, the jerseys, the hats, everything. We donate money to all the eagles foundations and yours mcnabb, and we were at the stadium at 10 o'clock in the morning for a monday night game, WE BLEED GREEN truly!!! I love the birds, but im not a homer, im not going to act like your a god, you are a mere mortal like all of us. You didnt have a great game and i know you know that. Even if we won you still did not play like you can or could. Then I hear you say you dont get the praise you should. I disagree. I hear people praise you all the time. How much praise are you looking for!!! I dont see jake delhomme getting tons of it, and he pretty much did everything you have done right? And please we need you to not only lead by example, we need you to pump guys up. We need you to get rowdy. We need you to Put the passion back into eagles football. Cause after these 2 first games its not there.
-
Donovan, I am an Eagles fan but wish you would quit whining and making race an issue every time you are criticized for poor play. Nobody else is throwing the ball into the dirt or behind your receivers but you. Just because you are black isn't the issue. Peyton Manning was criticized for not winning the big games until he won the Super Bowl last year. Just play football and let your arm do the talking.
-
Donovan,
I read your comment about the black quarterbacks and I agree that theres a different standard but it seems that way because a majority of black quarterbacks are pure athletes that have the scramble first mentality and it is a double edged sword. No one is a more complete quarterback when they can scramble an pass (See comments about vick when he threw 3 tds last year) but when things go wrong e.g. injuries, fumbles, etc. everyone wants the QB to become a pocket passer. I think you have developed into a pocket passer and I feel you have gotten the credit you deserve HOWEVER you get way to much grief for losses. You did not play well the last couple of games but nobody goes after the qb the way they do in philly and its unjustified because if you boo after the first series, it gets in the head of the whole offense. I saw your quote about how fans want you to yell and speak out and I agree you dont want to mouth off, but your players do not step up for you because you have the ability to do it yourself and they dont feel pushed. Garcia needed a lot of help and Reggie and Donte and LJ made ridiculous catches because, probably because they knew the qb situation was weak. They NEED to get separation, theres nothing wrong with saying I need to make throws but my receivers need to get out of their breaks. Dont give the blanket we all need to play better-- or at least tell them privately. Good luck this year. -
Come to Chicago Donovan!
-
Hey donovan,
I just wanted to say stay focused and dont worry about anything that the media and radio personalities have to say about you, I have been a loyal fan of the eagles ever since i can remember and have a great respect for the team and for you ever since you were drafted. I was glad then and I'm glad now that you are so stay strong and keep doing what your doing -
McNabb now says that white QB's don't get criticized like black QB's.
Donovan, you've been treated very well by the national media as well as the local media. Are you saying you would be treated better if you were a white QB??? -
thta is dumb why would he say that
