Robert Hanashiro, USA TODAY

On Saturday, April 11, 1992, 43-year-old George Foreman, who was involved in many memorable fights, continued his quest towards another world title, which he ultimately won against Michael Moorer, becoming the oldest heavyweight champion in history. Over two years before that historic night, “Big George” faced journeyman Alex Stewart at the Thomas & Mack Center in Paradise, Nevada. It was a tough night for Foreman as he was pushed all the way. Big Fight Weekend are taking you back to that challenging night for Foreman.

George Foreman Continues World Title Quest

George Foreman vs. Alex Stewart Recapped

The fight began promisingly for Foreman as he let his piston-like jab go and followed up with big right hands, which floored Stewart twice in round two, including a sledgehammer right hand. The end was seemingly near for another “Big George” victory, but Stewart had no intention of being an easy KO to go on Foreman’s record

After making the count, Stewart began to let his jab go, enabling him to control the distance much more effectively and negate the power of “Big George.” The jab was so effective that Foreman’s face swelled dramatically as the fight progressed. Stewart was putting together effective combination punches, which continued to mark up Foreman.

The crowd helped “Big George” rally down the home stretch as both men landed at will. The bout ended with both men showing signs of a punishing fight. The judge’s scorecards read 94-93 x2 for Foreman, with the third scoring it 94-94, ensuring Foreman escaped with a razor-close majority decision victory with the second-round knockdowns proving key.
