Errol Spence Jr. is back in training as question marks remain over his next fight.
After his loss to Terence Crawford, Spence activated his rematch clause to set that wrong right. He was stopped in the ninth round as Crawford became the first Undisputed Welterweight Champion of the four-belt era. After the loss, several suggestions were made about why Spence was beaten. His fans claimed that the 147 weight cut may have been an issue, given that he looked drained coming into the fight.
Spence did not endorse those comments but stated that his vision was compromised entering the fight. This was after his revelation that he had cataract surgery to cure his vision problem after the bout. Crawford did not take those comments too well, as the suggestion was that his win was being downplayed. Crawford moved on from the rematch, leaving Spence with question marks over where he would go next.

“Had successful cataract surgery today! That explains why I got hit with so many jabs and hooks lately and have been overdue since before the Crawford fight. Still a great performance by Bro. No more excuses after this fight, though. The champ is back,” Spence said
“I done heard it all now @ErrolSpenceJr it’s ok tho because all in all I’m glad it’s over and done with. I wish you well ma brotha,” Crawford stated
Either way, Spence is back in training. The following footage shows him skipping heavily as he attempts to get back in shape. This naturally begs the question: who could he face? He could retire or face Jaron Ennis, the next biggest star at 147. Facing Ennis, however, is a huge risk since that fight will likely take place at 147.
Spence’s Options
Other alternatives include Keith Thurman or Tim Tszyu. On March 30, 2024, they will face each other on PBC’s first PPV with Amazon Prime Video. It is a non-title fight, but Tszyu is the WBO Junior Middleweight Champion. Suppose the Australian does come out victorious, that gives Spence a chance to fight for another world title. That would cap off a difficult period with becoming a two-weight world champion.
But another loss for Spence will also increase calls for him to retire. But if he does come out victorious in a potential match-up, he could get that Crawford rematch. Bud has been advised to take his time and not rush any Spence rematch. Roy Jones Jr. confirmed as much and urged Crawford not to take any risks by facing Ennis, given he had nothing else to prove.
“There’s nothing for him, just sit back and wait. Why would you take the chance fighting Jaron Ennis? You the man now, you’re 36 years old. You done proved yourself over, and over, and over again. Fighting Jaron Ennis would be harder because you got everything to lose and nothing to win,” Jones said
