Canelo Vs. Spence

“Don’t be surprised if he fights Errol Spence for that third fight. I’m saying he’s gonna fight Spence next,” Bradley stated 

There is a feeling that the fight is past its sell-by date. Crawford dropped Spence three times on his way to being stopped in round nine. That was the first defeat of his professional career, showing it would have taken a mental toll on the fighter. 

It also followed two car accidents prior, during which Spence suffered a detached retina. Before the defeat, Spence was open to facing Alvarez. Now, there is a chance that he risks his health, given the huge disparity in weight. But the attraction may be too big to turn down, given his previous comments.

“[A fight against Alvarez] sounds good, but I mean, [Alvarez has] a three-fight deal [with Premier Boxing Champions]. So, I don’t know who it could be in that deal. It could be [David] Benavidez, then Jermall [Charlo], and whoever else.

“He and [PBC head] Al [Haymon] and whoever he did the deal with – they probably already got the names picked out. It’s already pre-written. I have no idea. I get people’s speculation, but at the end of the day, it’s nothing but speculation. Yeah, I might [jump up the weight classes]. It’s something that I would definitely think about,” Spence stated 

The most realistic fights for Spence after Crawford would be at 154 pounds. He was on course to rematch Crawford in that weight class, which is why a fight at Junior Middleweight makes sense. He could take on Tim Tszyu, who is the current WBO champion. 

There is also the possibility of facing Keith Thurman, who is fighting Tszyu. Jermell Charlo is also a champion at 154 pounds if he desires that fight, but this is unlikely since they are both working under Derrick James. If Spence cannot secure a big bout, it may be time to walk away.
