Alabama Crimson Tide forward Brandon Miller’s former teammate, Darius Miles, was charged in January by authorities in Tuscaloosa for shooting and killing a 23-year-old woman. Miles was ultimately charged with capital murder.

We now have more information on this linking Miller to the killing. An officer with the Tuscaloosa Sheriff’s Office testified in court recently that Miller brought the gun Miles allegedly used in the shooting of the woman, according to al.com's Carol Robinson. Miles had allegedly texted Miller to “get his gun” and bring it to a certain location.

As for potential charges against Miller, Tuscaloosa chief deputy D.A. Paula Whitley indicated that “there’s nothing we could charge him with” according to state law. Meanwhile, Alabama head coach Nate Oats said on Tuesday that Miller is “not in any trouble” as a result of his alleged involvement in the fatal shooting, per al.com's Mike Rodak.

“We knew about that. Can’t control everything everybody does outside of practice. Nobody knew that was going to happen. College kids are out, Brandon hasn’t been in any type of trouble nor is he in any type of trouble in this case. Wrong spot at the wrong time,” Oats said.

The victim is reportedly Birmingham native Jamea Jonae Harris. Michael Davis, 20, is the other individual being charged in the shooting. Harris and Davis are not members of the University on any level. It does not seem like Miller will end up being charged.

Whether this has an impact on the forward’s draft standing remains to be seen. The 6-foot-8 wing was a five-star recruit in the class of 2022 and has played at an exceptionally high level this season.

  • Brandon Miller stats (2022-23): 18.7 PPG, 8.0 RPG, 46% shooting, 43% 3-point percentage

Miller is one of the primary reasons Alabama sits at No. 2 in the nation with a 23-4 record. We also have him going No. 5 overall to the Orlando Magic in our latest 2023 NBA mock draft.
