FAU hires Cris Carter as Executive Director of Player Development

“We’d like to officially announce and welcome Cris Carter to our football staff as the Executive Director of Player Engagement,” the statement read.

He’ll join the staff with the FAU Owls that is led by head coach Tom Herman. Herman spent two years (2012-2014) as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach with the Ohio State Buckeyes–the place where Carter was dominant during his college days.

Once he wrapped up his playing career for the Buckeyes, Carter ended up etching his name in the record books as one of the greatest players to ever suit up in Columbus. He left Ohio State holding the school record for career receptions (168), bringing in 2,725 receiving yards and 27 touchdowns. Carter earned consensus All-American honors his junior season with OSU, hauling in 69 passes for 1,127 yards and 11 touchdowns.

As a freshman, the Ohio native set a Rose Bowl record with nine catches for 172 receiving yards.

Carter was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2013. He was an eight-time Pro Bowler with the Minnesota Vikings. He enjoyed an impressive run of eight straight seasons with 1,000 receiving yards or more. 

Known for his remarkable durability throughout his playing career, Carter played full 16-game seasons in 13 of his 16 years in the National Football League. 

He finished his career as the NFL’s second all-time leading receiver, hauling in 1,101 catches for 13,899 yards. By the time he retired after the 2022 season, he snagged 130 touchdowns, ranking the second most in NFL history.

The former Ohio State star also became a member of the NFL’s All-Decade Team of the 1990s. He hauled in 10 or more touchdowns in a season six times and Carter led the league in receiving touchdowns three times (1995, 1997, and 1999). 

When he was drafted in the league, he was originally selected by the Philadelphia Eagles in the fourth round of the 1987 Supplemental Draft.
