LSU OC expects ‘breakout season’ from WR Racey McMath

LSU has some major holes to fill on offense with star players like Joe Burrow and Justin Jefferson having moved on to the NFL, and Racey McMath is a name we should keep an eye on heading into the 2020 season.

LSU offensive coordinator Steven Ensminger told reporters on Wednesday that he expects a breakout season from McMath, who is entering his senior year.

McMath had only 17 catches for 285 yards and three touchdowns last season, though he was not high on the depth chart. LSU already had two stud receivers in Jefferson and Ja’Marr Chase. Chase will return as the No. 1 option in the passing game, but there should be plenty of targets for McMath if he proves he is ready to make a big leap.

Ensminger also expressed optimism over the incoming freshman receiver class.

Myles Brennan is projected to start at quarterback for LSU. No one is expecting him to step in and win the Heisman Trophy like Burrow, but he should have a strong receiver group to work with. That will certainly be true if Ensminger’s confidence in McMath is warranted.
