Mark Richt says he suffered heart attack Monday
Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

Former Georgia and Miami head coach Mark Richt had a significant health scare on Monday.

Richt announced on his Twitter account Monday that he had suffered a heart attack earlier in the morning, but was “doing fine.” He added that he intends to be back to work this week as an analyst for ESPN and the ACC Network.

Richt had a career 171-64 record at Georgia and Miami during his career. He helped build Georgia into a high-ranking SEC program and restored Miami to 10 wins before abruptly retiring after the 2018 season. The stress and toll of coaching, combined with his health, may be the reason he has no plans to coach again despite being only 59.
