Nebraska football is talking to Dana Holgorsen about a coaching position, plus other Nebraska Cornhuskers news.

The Nebraska football team made two transfer portal additions over the weekend and it seems as though the Huskers aren’t quite done in the transfer portal.

Nebraska has been trending as the favorite for former Wake Forest wideout Jahmal Banks who took an official visit to Lincoln last week. Isaiah Neyor committed on Friday night and you wondered if the Huskers would take both. It seems as though they will take both and the crystal balls all favor Nebraska football.

Banks told Huskers 247 that he expects to make a decision “Midweek” or “by the end of the week.” With Banks just visiting Nebraska, it feels like the guy with back-to-back 600-yard plus seasons will be N.

A new QB coach?

In what might be the biggest piece of news from this past weekend, Nebraska football is in talks with former Houston and West Virginia head coach Dana Holgorsen about him joining the coaching staff.

Holgorsen has been an offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach in the past. He’s coached players in the NFL and has also coached numerous players who have eclipsed 4,000 yards.

Nebraska football fans have been pining for a new quarterbacks coach. Marcus Satterfield wasn’t supposed to be the quarterbacks coach anyway — except things didn’t work out.

My hope is that Holgorsen is hired as QBs coach/passing game coordinator. There is talk of him being added as an analyst, which would also help, but these quarterbacks need hands-on teaching and Holgorsen would be a boon for Matt Rhule.

More Nebraska Cornhuskers news

  • Nash Hutcmacher made his wrestling debut for the Nebraska Cornhuskers on Saturday and notched two pins in the heavyweight division. The Huskers rolled Wyoming 44-3, while they defeated Northern Iowa 18-17. Hutmacher is a former four-time state wrestling champion and he went 2-0 on Saturday. Hutmacher is down to 285 pounds but said he has the full support of Matt Rhule and will be back to a better-playing weight for football season. I love it and think the extra work can only help him dominate even more in 2024.
  • The Nebraska Cornhuskers women’s basketball team had a key game against Indiana on Sunday but suffered their first Big Ten loss after a 91-69 defeat. Nebraska is now 11-4 on the season as well as 3-1 in the Big Ten. Alexis Markowski led the Huskers with 21 points. Natalie Potts added nine.
