Ohio State head coach Ryan Day: Buckeyes' loss to Oregon 'unacceptable'

Following No. 3 Ohio State's disappointing 35-28 loss to No. 12 Oregon on Saturday, Buckeyes head coach Ryan Day didn't hold back in sharing his frustration about the team's performance.

Speaking to reporters, Day called the Buckeyes' showing "unacceptable" and said they've "got to get it fixed."

Ohio State's defense has struggled through two games this season, allowing a combined 913 yards of total offense to Minnesota and Oregon. However, Day wouldn't place the blame on defensive coordinator Kerry Coombs, blaming himself instead.

Ducks quarterback Anthony Brown threw for 236 yards and two touchdowns, while redshirt senior running back CJ Verdell ran for 161 yards and two scores on 20 carries. Travis Dye also rushed for 43 yards and a score.

If the Buckeyes have any hopes of reaching the national championship game again, they certainly have to figure things out on defense, as Day said.

On the other hand, Ohio State's offense looked good once again. Freshman quarterback CJ Stroud threw for 484 yards and three touchdowns against one interception. Three of Ohio State's receivers also had more than 100 yards receiving Saturday, including Jaxon Smith-Njigba (145 yards, two TDs), Chris Olave (126 yards) and Garrett Wilson (117 yards, one touchdown).

Another area of improvement the Buckeyes need to focus on entering Week 3 is the running game. Miyan Williams and TreVeyon Henderson ran for just 131 yards combined.

This is Ohio State's first loss to Oregon. It also snapped Day's 23-game winning streak in non-College Football Playoff games to start his career.

Ohio State will face Tulsa next weekend, looking to get back in the win column.
