The Penn State football team is searching for players to elevate the wide receiver room next season. On the other hand, current Nittany Lion wide receivers have their own decisions to make. If they want to stay at Penn State, work hard, and turn it around in 2024, or do they want to leave for the NFL and or enter the transfer portal? We got part of that answer Wednesday, as reports now indictae that WR Dante Cephas will re-enter the portal after just one season at Penn State.
Dante Cephas was a massive addition to the Penn State football roster ahead of the 2023 season. He officially joined the team after transferring from Kent State this summer. Everyone thought he could be the guy this season or at least play in a counter role to KeAndre Lambert-Smith, but Cephas failed to live up to those high expectations. The reality is that Cephas struggled to stay on the field, which limited his reps and statistics this season. In 2023 he accounted for 22 catches for 246 yards and 2 touchdowns.

He did not register a single snap in the Peach Bowl against Ole Miss and then this video surfaced following the game. Cephas was the first player off the field and reportedly did not join the team in singing the alma mater. Now, Cephas is now expected to re-enter the transfer portal, per the reporting of Pete Nakos of On3.

It was odd to not see Dante Cephas take a single snap against Ole Miss on Saturday. The Penn State media thought so as well and decided to ask James Franklin about Cephas’ lack of playing time.
Franklin said, “Everything’s an open competition every week, and the depth chart reflects that. Then obviously when you’re in a bowl situation and you’ve got three weeks, there’s a lot of movement that can occur in three weeks.
Part of that obviously is having Trey Wallace back that we had not had for about five weeks this year.”
