UCLA Defensive Back Receives Among Best Positional Grade in Week 2
USA TODAY Sports

The Bruins continued their win streak, beating the San Diego State Aztecs 35-10.

A downpour of rushing and passing by the Bruins helped put on the 35 points they scored, but the defense has stepped up yet again and is off to a hot start.

Senior cornerback Alex Johnson got two interceptions in the game, and the team got three as they smothered the Aztecs' offense.

Johnson played well, earning an 89.6 grade by PFF, the second-highest-graded corner for the week behind Auburn's Donovan Kaufman.

Both interceptions were great plays on the ball to read the quarterback's eyes. His second interception was an amazing undercut of the shallow route.

The Bruins defense was already labeled as the no.1 pass rush in the country by PFF, but now the unit is also top-5 in interceptions.

These back-to-back strong performances by the team allowed them to crack the AP Top 25 rankings as the 24th-best team in the country.

The turnovers and minimal yardage gained are aided by the amazing front seven the Bruins have this year, including star defensive end Laiatu Latu, who currently leads the nation in sacks.

The Bruins are the heavy favorites against the North Carolina Central Eagles, who are 2-0.

The defense as a whole will most likely continue on the warpath they are leaving behind, with players like Laiatu Latu and Alexs Johnson leading their units on the field as they look to go 3-0.
