UCLA Football Injury Report: Critical Bruins Defender Could Be Back In Time For Cal
USA TODAY Sports

UCLA has had one of the best defenses in college football this season, due in large part to their dominant defensive line that has averaged over 3.6 sacks per game through 11 games this season - tied for the second-best clip in the nation.

Their defensive line took a major blow last Saturday when defensive tackle Jay Toia was carted off the field with a leg injury. He later came back to the sideline on crutches and with a hard plastic cast on his right leg, according to James H. Williams of The Orange County Register.

According to 247Sports' Mike Regalado, Toia was walking with a limp at practice but was active during the media viewing session on Wednesday. His right foot was heavily taped.

Toia has 24 total tackles on the season and just one sack. As a tackle, he is heavily involved in stopping the run game, in which his 325 pounds (95th percentile) certainly helps.

The UCLA junior will likely be drafted, whether he declares after this season or spends one more year in college.

It is undetermined whether Toia will play in Saturday's game against Cal.
