The Wisconsin Badgers football team had been anticipating Chez Mellusi’s decision regarding his return for the 2024 season since the regular season concluded, and now, the wait is over.

During his media session on National Signing Day, Badgers head coach Luke Fickell revealed that Mellusi would use his medical redshirt and return to the University of Wisconsin next season.

“I don’t know that Chez has announced, but he is definitely planning on coming back,” Fickell said. “He’s a guy that we’re going to count on a lot to be a great leader for us.”

Mellusi would later confirm on social media his return to the Badgers.

Wisconsin Football Reveals Chez Mellusi Will Return in 2024

After a strong beginning to the season, Wisconsin football running back Chez Mellusi suffered a season-ending leg injury during the Purdue game.

Mellusi was a focal point of the offense early on, tallying 51 carries for 307 yards at an impressive 6.0 yards per carry rate and scoring four rushing touchdowns. His one-cut running style was a seemingly perfect fit in the Badgers’ new spread offensive approach under Phil Longo.

Now, he’ll have the chance to lead the next generation of Wisconsin football tailbacks, considering that Braelon Allen declared for the NFL Draft after the Badgers win over Minnesota.

The Badgers are expected to return options like Jackson Acker, Cade Yacamelli, and Nate White while also welcoming in the trio of 2024 tailbacks Dilin Jones, Darrion Dupree, and Gideon Ituka.

Having a player like Mellusi, with 407 career carries for 2,021 yards and 17 touchdowns, will be invaluable. He’s also caught 17 passes for 141 yards with two receiving touchdowns.

This is massive news for the Wisconsin Badgers.
