25 songs that could be summer 2020 anthems

Rapper Megan Thee Stallion and her hottie fan base made big waves in 2019 when she released her "Fever" EP. In 2020, she followed up with "Suga" which earned a rising hit for her single, "Savage." Fellow Houston native Beyoncé added a fiery element to the "Savage (Remix)," earning Megan the No. 2 spot on the Billboard Hot 100. Megan and Bey are here to make sure all fans will still have a hot girl summer, quarantine or not. 

Danish pop band Lukas Graham is back with a bubblegum song that would be perfect for any upcoming rom-com films. "Love Songs" is a fun take on how people think some love-dovey songs are written for them, but that's not always the case. 

After a four-year hiatus since his last studio album, The Weeknd returned with his fourth studio project, "After Hours." The Weeknd is known for experimenting with different sounds as he progresses in his career, and this album was no different as it included elements of '80s retro and electropop. One of the standout tracks is "Blinding Lights," in which The Weeknd goes through a life of distractions but is comforted when he's around his significant other. 

In 2019, Destiny Rogers became one of the newest faces of the pop world when she released her EP "Tomboy." Her first single of 2020 is the midtempo, "Kickin' Pushin,'" which is all about working hard to fulfill her wildest dreams. 

It's rare when artists flip their own song to make an even bigger hit. Jhené Aiko did just that on her 2020 single, "Happiness Over Everything (H.O.E.)" Aiko took her 2011 song "Hoe" and turned it into "Happiness Over Everything" with Miguel singing sweet melodies on the hook and Future offering an extra verse. 

After nearly a two-year hiatus since his debut album "Lady Lady," singer Masego has used his time to lend his voice as features for other artists. It appears he's readying for his sophomore effort with his latest single, "Veg Out (Wasting Thyme)." The song is an essential quarantine tune, as Masego sings about relaxing and hanging out at home with that special someone. 

The style of Niall Horan may sound familiar, as the singer rose to fame as a former member of One Direction. Now that Horan is a solo artist, he's doing things his way and it's eminent on his second studio album, "Heartbreak Weather." One of the album's standout tracks is "New Angel," as Horan finds himself dreaming of a certain someone to bring something new to his life. 

Chris Brown and Young Thug released a joint EP, "Slime & B," a collaboration that many people didn't realize they needed. Young Thug and Chris Brown have worked together in the past; however the joint mixtape was a surprise to many fans. On "Go Crazy," the two use a sweet sample of The Showboys' hit song "Drag Rap" as they want their significant others to be as wild as they want during the late hours. "Go Crazy" could be the perfect party record, once clubs are open again for business.

Fans can always count on Bad Bunny for the feel-good music, and his hot streak isn't slowing down. On Mother's Day, Bad Bunny released a surprise album, "Las Que No Iban a Salir," with features artists including Yandel and Nicky Jam. A fan favorite is the Don Omar-assisted track "Pa' Romperla," a smooth reggaetón jam that is sure to keep people on the dance floor this summer. 

In late 2019, rising rapper Doja Cat released her second studio album, "Hot Pink," to solid reviews. The second single, "Say So," started gaining more popularity thanks to a viral TikTok dance. However, once Doja added Nicki Minaj to the official remix, the track landed the two rappers their first No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. It's safe to say that women are running the rap world, and the future is bright. 

Pop star Dua Lipa has been rising high with multiple tours and earning a Grammy Award for Best New Artist. Lipa released her sophomore album, "Future Nostalgia," in late March and one standout track is "Levitating." Although not an official single just yet, "Levitating" is an '80s-inspired track in which Lipa sings about her infatuation while using astronomy metaphors. 

Artists have a duty to present music in the best light, especially when their song samples a classic hit. Lil Mosey adds elements of Johnny Gill's 1990 hit, "My, My, My" on his latest single, "Blueberry Faygo." Mosey's melodic bars across the bouncy beat make it a breezy, summer tune. 

When an artist has a successful hit, there's usually pressure to keep feeding fans with another smash record. Camila Cabello seems to be continuing her ring of hits with her latest single, "My Oh My (Remix)," alongside rappers DaBaby and Gunna. The production draws listeners in with a Latin hip-hop beat as Cabello sings about letting go of a good girl image. If fans fell in love with her song "Havana," they will surely be fond of "My Oh My." 

Television has seen a surge in reality shows over the years; however one of the more interesting in recent years is NBC's "Songland." The show gives three upcoming songwriters a chance to pitch their original songs to music's biggest stars, with hopes of the artist releasing it as an official single. One of the show's latest winning songs comes from country trio Lady Antebellum. "Champagne Night" is all about toasting to life, which could still be a beam of light in the darkest times. 

Artists don't always see longevity these days, especially in the R&B world. However, veteran singer Usher has been in the industry for over 25 years and continuously proves that he's one of the best in the game. Usher teams up with rising star Ella Mai on his playful single, "Don't Waste My Time," which gives a throwback feeling of '90s R&B. The video also shows people living life to the fullest at a house party — simpler times. 

Even during the time of self-isolation and sheltering in place, Kim Petras gives listeners a sense of beach days on her new single, "Malibu." She uses metaphors of days around the Pacific blue sea to tell her true feelings about a significant other. 

Summer always brings a feeling of sweet bliss, and Harry Styles puts that emotion on full display with his single, "Watermelon Sugar." Styles describes how he wants to get back that feeling from a past love, being on a "watermelon sugar high" on a cool, summer evening. 

As fans wait patiently for Drake's follow-up to 2018's "Scorpion," the rapper gifted listeners with a surprise mixtape, "Dark Lane Demo Tapes." In proper Drake fashion, he recruits frequent collaborators Future and Young Thug on the standout track, "D4L." In addition to the infectious production from Southside, "D4L" is filled with lines that are sure to be Instagram caption-worthy. 

As Sam Smith prepares to release his next album, he teams up with fellow pop singer Demi Lovato on his latest single, "I'm Ready." Smith and Lovato use the song to tell about the ups and downs in relationships and how they're ready to be in love with someone who is going to treat them right. 

It's been a few years since Rihanna released her last studio album and as fans hope a new project is coming soon, the singer collaborated with PartyNextDoor on his song, "BELIEVE IT." PND and RiRi sing about being faithful in a relationship and how each person must believe in one another for the union to last. 

Pop duo Surfaces first released "Sunday Best" back in 2019; however, the single exploded with viral videos on TikTok and has since climbed the Billboard charts. "Sunday Best" is more than just donning one's best clothes to feel good, but it's also about waking up with a positive attitude to thrive throughout the day. 

Rising R&B star TeaMarrr has been on the radar of many fans since becoming the first artist signed to Issa Rae's new record label Raedio. One of TeaMarrr's latest singles, "Temperature" was featured in a recent episode of HBO's "Insecure." On "Temperature," TeaMarrr sings about how she can be either hot or cold when she's around a significant other, and her temperature changes based on her lover's actions and words.

Lennon Stella and Charlie Puth team up on the fun-loving "Summer Feelings," a song that beams with life on a California beach. As the lead single to the "Scoob!" soundtrack, Stella and Puth sing about how love can feel like a perfect, summer day filled with cool breezes, beach waves and sunset views.  

If there was a song that represents 2020 during a pandemic, it's Troye Sivan's latest single, "Take Yourself Home." The song shines about taking a step back from the outside life one has created and losing enthusiasm; therefore one should go home for a little self-reflection. "Take Yourself Home" may take on a different meaning for listeners these days, as the world is forced to stay home to help combat a global crisis. 

R&B singer SZA recently teamed up with Justin Timberlake on "The Other Side," a lead duet from the "Trolls World Tour" soundtrack. While fans are used to hearing Timberlake perform a dance-heavy track, it's a different type of sound for SZA fans. "The Other Side" gives a '70s disco sound as the two sing about appreciating life because the grass isn't always greener on the other side.
