'And Just Like That' showrunner Michael Patrick King comments on Kim Cattrall's absence

Nobody was surprised when Kim Cattrall was the only one not to reprise her role for And Just Like That..., HBO Max's limited series revival of Sex and the City, but showrunner Michael Patrick King just added an element of intrigue.

"What you know is that Kim Cattrall is not in it," King said during an interview for Emmy Magazine, due to be published Dec. 3, that E! News exclusively shared. "You don't know this: that Samantha is not."

Cattrall portrayed Samantha throughout SATC's original run on HBO from 1998 to 2004, as well as the two feature-length films in '08 and '10, but a seemingly one-sided feud between Cattrall and Sarah Jessica Parker led Cattrall to say she would "never" appear in another SATC movie. ("It's a no from me.")

Premiering Dec. 9, And Just Like That... "will follow Carrie [Parker], Miranda [Cynthia Nixon] and Charlotte [Kristin Davis] as they navigate the journey from the complicated reality of life and friendship in their 30s to the even more complicated reality of life and friendship in their 50s" over the course of 10 episodes.

Cattrall, meanwhile, was recently cast as the future version of Hilary Duff's character in Hulu's How I Met Your Mother spinoff series How I Met Your Father as well as Peacock's Queer As Folk (h/t Deadline).
