'Certified Lover Boy' producer Noah '40' Shebib addresses R. Kelly song credit: 'Doesn't sit well with me'

Not all songwriting credits are created equal, according to Noah "40" Shebib.

The 38-year-old Canadian record producer addressed the disturbing fact that R. Kelly is credited as having co-written Drake's "Certified Lover Boy" track "TSU" in the comments of Ravyn Wngz's Instagram post over the weekend.

"On a song called tsu at the beginning is a sample of OG Ron c talking," 40, best known for producing on each of Drake's six studio albums, wrote. "Behind that faintly which you can't even hear is an r Kelly song playing in the background. It has no significance no lyrics are present, r Kelly's voice isn't even present but if we wanted to use Ron c talking we were forced to license it. Doesn't sit well with me let me just say that."

"And I'm not here to defend drakes lyrics, but I thought I would clear up that there is no actual r Kelly present and it's a bit misleading to call him a co lyricist," the two-time Grammy winner continued. "It's kind wild cause I was just reading 'Baby Girl' by Kathy landoli and the recounts of some of that stuff is horrific and disgusting. Then I saw this post and just had to say something because to think we would stand beside that guy or write with him is just incredibly disgusting."

R. Kelly, 54, is currently on trial in New York federal court for aggravated sexual abuse, sex trafficking and racketeering.

The decades of alleged sex-related abuse — often involving minors— publicly came to a head in the mainstream with the 2019 "Surviving R. Kelly" documentary. Kelly was arrested in Chicago in February 2019 on 10 counts of aggravated sexual abuse but was released on bail three days later. He was indicted by a federal grand jury that July and arrested again in Chicago — this time, he was denied bail — "on charges including child pornography, enticement of a minor and obstruction of justice; a separate indictment filed in the Eastern District of New York included charges of racketeering, kidnapping, forced labor and the sexual exploitation of a child" (h/t The Associated Press).
