Fictional parties we wished we could have attended

Everybody likes a party. In movies or on television, there have been many memorable parties that viewers wish they could have attended. Here are 25 of the best.

1 of 25

25. 'Some Kind of Wonderful'

'Some Kind of Wonderful'
Paramount Pictures

Only the conceited and self-righteous would hang out at one of Hardy Jenns' parties. However, this one was particularly lively when introvert Keith (Eric Stoltz) finally confronted Jens (Craig Sheffer) after bringing his ex-girlfriend Amanda Jones (Lea Thompson) to one of his parties. Keith wasn't afraid, and neither was Amanda, who delivered a mean slap to Hardy's face in this 1980s classic. Fun was cranked up to a respectable level when delinquent Duncan (Elias Koteas) and his buddies showed up to rattle Hardy even more.

24. 'Seinfeld'

In Season 3, Jerry and Elaine joined George for a work party on Long Island. As George was trying to get together with a female co-worker, Jerry was stuck amid plenty of boring conversations while Elaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) got caught talking to a man obsessed with the peanut and a woman who apparently lost her fiancé. "Maybe the dingo ate your baby?" Unfortunately, Jerry and Elaine, suffering from boredom, were stranded at the party after George left with the woman and needed Kramer to drive out to get them.

23. 'Gilmore Girls'

During Season 3 of this massively popular CW show, Lane's band played a keg party in Stars Hollow. It was their first true gig. Unfortunately, love issues drove Lane (Keiko Agena) to drink while Dean (Jared Padalecki) and Jess (Milo Ventimiglia) came to blows over Rory (Alexis Bledel). That resulted in the house being trashed and cops coming to break up the festivities.

22. 'Beer League'

'Beer League'

This forgotten Artie Lange flick about a 35-year-old slacker and his middling park-league softball team is underrated. It features one of the great bachelor scenes of all time. Plenty of booze, babes (including the infamous Pitching Machine), and coke on hand to celebrate the pending marriage of second baseman Maz (Ralph Macchio).

21. 'Varsity Blues'

Postgame parties are one of few things bigger in Texas than high school football. On this particular night, burly offensive guard Billy Bob (the late Ron Lester) had too much to drink, and nut-job receiver Charlie Tweeder (Scott Caan) decided to steal a police car from the cops that came to check up on the party. Just another Friday night in West Canaan, Texas.

20. 'Ted'

'Ted'
Universal Studios

Ted sure knows how to party. The place was packed. John (Mark Wahlberg) was there, of course, and so was the guy who played Flash Gordon in the 1980s film. This bash was not appropriate at all. There was plenty of alcohol, karaoke (plenty of 90s tunes), some cocaine, and party games with knives. Good times, if we're able to survive it.

19. 'Risky Business'

'Risky Business'
Warner Bros.

It's doubtful most teenagers can get away with turning their family home into a brothel for the evening. However, this was the 1980s, and Joel Goodson (Tom Cruise) had a lot of connections to pull it off. Needing money to fix his father's severely damaged Porsche, Joel had a plan. Why not invite your sex worker girlfriend, some of her colleagues, and your high school friends for a night of debauchery?

18. 'EuroTrip'

'EuroTrip'
Dreamworks Pictures

High school graduation parties are perfect grounds for memorable movie moments. Maybe not for Scotty (Scott Mechlowicz), who learned his girlfriend Fiona had not only broken up with him but that she'd been cheating on him with the singer (Matt Damon) of a band who was playing the same party that night and did a song about their affair while Scotty looked on. That's cold.

17. '10 Things I Hate About You'

'10 Things I Hate About You'
Touchstone Pictures

The rager at Bogey Lowenstein's house will go down as one of the great parties in teen rom-com movie history. Though, things didn't totally go the way Cameron (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) wanted with Bianca (Larisa Oleynik) until later in the evening. Kat's table dance proved to be the highlight of the party. Kat (Julia Stiles) felt the pain of a hangover and possible concussion the next day.

16. 'Teen Wolf'

'Teen Wolf'

If we go by the time sequence of the storyline in this 1980s classic (not the TV version), this keg party was held during the week, considering Scott Howard (Michael J. Fox) seemed to attend school the next day. It was the night Scott not only hooked up with a best friend "Boof," but also learned of the alter ego within himself.

15. 'American Pie'

'American Pie'
Universal Studios; Summit Entertainment

There have been numerous notable parties within the American Pie franchise. However, one of the best was the post-prom bash at Steve Stifler's family lake house. While our four main characters got lucky in losing their virginity, Paul Finch's ability to snag Stifler's mom (Jennifer Coolidge) was the highlight of the evening.

14. 'The Great Gatsby'

'The Great Gatsby'
Warner Bros.

We will highlight the 2013 film version starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire. We're not talking about one specific party since Gatsby is known for throwing many festive events. They are lavish, intriguing, and always seem to have a hint of mystery that only adds to the fun associated with some of the most complex yet celebrated characters in literary history.

13. 'Almost Famous'

'Almost Famous'
YouTube

It's pretty common for members of semi-prominent rock bands to attend random house parties while touring in Topeka, Kansas. At least in the Almost Famous universe. Stillwater guitarist Russell Hammond left a lasting impression after taking quite a bit of acid. Standing on the roof of the house, overlooking a swimming pool, he proclaimed himself a "golden god."

12. 'Superbad'

'Superbad'
Sony Pictures; Columbia Pictures

There are two parties worth attending during this 2017 coming-of-age classic. First, high schoolers Seth (Jonah Hill) and Evan (Michael Cera) make their way to an adult party to score booze to bring to Jules' bash. After nearly succumbing to a beat down at that first party, the boys make their way to Jules' house, where their night doesn't go as planned but is still one they — or fellow friend Fogell (Christopher Mintz-Plasse) — will never forget.

11. 'Breakfast at Tiffany's'

'Breakfast at Tiffany's'
Paramount Pictures

Social butterfly Holly Golightly (Audrey Hepburn) threw one of the most notable apartment parties in film history. It also happened to come in one of the most celebrated films of all time. In addition to Holly, it was quite the social scene. There was a Hollywood agent, a foreign politician, and Rusty Trawler, also known as the "ninth richest man in America under 50."

10. 'Revenge of the Nerds'

'Revenge of the Nerds'
20th Century Fox

When the boys were trying to earn charter acceptance from Lambda Lambda Lambda, they figured it would be a good idea to host a party for some of the fraternity's national leadership. With the Omega Mu sorority in the house, the night got off to a slow start. But after "Booger" broke out the wonder joints, the party really kicked into gear, and inhibitions were thrown to the wind.

9. 'Can't Hardly Wait'

'Can't Hardly Wait'
Columbia Pictures

A lot was going on during this monster graduation party in suburbia. The focus is on Preston Meyers (Ethan Embry), a wholesome outsider trying to finally let his longtime crush, the uber-popular Amanda Beckett (Jennifer Love Hewitt), know he exists. Meanwhile, his best friend Denise (Lauren Ambrose) is just hoping to survive the evening among people she loathes.

8. 'House Party'

'House Party'
New Line Cinema

Back in the late 1980s and early '90s, Kid 'n Play was among the most popular hip-hop acts. So, naturally, they made a movie. It was pretty entertaining and covered a good amount of the social themes young people tend to deal with: social acceptance, insecurity, bullying, and parental defiance. Plus, great music and dancing played during a house party covered all those bases.

7. 'Sixteen Candles'

'Sixteen Candles'
Universal Pictures

High school heartthrob Jake Ryan (Michael Schoeffling) didn't really want to have a post-dance party, and he certainly did not want his house to get trashed. Unfortunately for Jake, there was a pizza on the stereo turntable and weights that smashed through the floor and busted his family's wine cellar. Not to mention "Farmer" Ted (Anthony Michael Hall) trapped under a coffee table and Caroline having her hair chopped off. What a night.

6. 'The Wolf of Wall Street'

'The Wolf of Wall Street'
Paramount Pictures; Universal Pictures

The film version of the memoir on the life of New York City stockbroker Jordan Belfort (a role for which Leonardo DiCaprio earned an Oscar nomination) is a wild ride. The highlight is the massive beach house party. If you couldn't find a way to have fun there, you weren't doing it right.

5. 'Bachelor Party'

'Bachelor Party'
Twentieth Century Fox

Another bachelor party to attend. And it does not get better than this. Friends of Rick Gassko (Tom Hanks) really went all out to send their buddy off to marriage in style. Plenty of strippers, hookers, drugs, and alcohol kept everybody entertained at this ritzy hotel suite. Not to mention a live band and even a donkey. The scene was completely wild, and only seasoned partiers would survive it.

4. 'Boogie Nights'

'Boogie Nights'
New Line Cinema

Famed adult film director Jack Horner knew how to throw a party in the Valley. There were plenty of attractive people, booze, cocaine, and shenanigans. Before Eddie (Mark Wahlberg) became Dirk Diggler, he got a taste of Jack's good life during one of those outdoor parties. Eddie enjoyed a margarita and hung around with Reed (John C. Reilly). He even got to show off his work on the diving board. Sounds like a pretty fun day.

3. 'Dazed and Confused'

'Dazed and Confused'
Gramercy Pictures

When Pickford's last-day-of-school bash was thwarted by his parents, things shifted to the moon tower. Full kegs, everyone was there. It had everything one could expect from an underage drinking party during the 1970s. Beer, weed, music, scams, fights, and the freedom of innocence at a time in one's life when having fun was the top priority — other than scoring Aerosmith tickets.

2. 'Old School'

'Old School'
Dreamworks Pictures

Technically, Mitch Martin (Luke Wilson) was not a student at Harrison University, but his huge bash (dubbed by friends as "Mitch-A-Palooza") featured plenty of students. It should go down as one of the greats in movie history, especially when Snoop Dogg is the headlining act. Not to mention doing a beer bong with Frank "The Tank" (Will Ferrell), followed by some late-night streaking "through the quad and into the gymnasium."

1. 'National Lampoon's Animal House'

'National Lampoon's Animal House'
Universal Pictures

This was the life many incoming college freshmen pictured when they left home. Joining a fraternity, drinking every night, pulling pranks, and taking part in a blowout toga party. While plenty of schools still hold toga parties like the Delta Tau Chi house at Faber College, it's hard to replicate this one.
