The Deadpool and Wolverine teaser doesn’t reveal a lot, but there are some hidden teases that, as Wade Wilson puts it, could change the Marvel Cinematic Universe forever. It’s a short teaser that doesn’t reveal too much about the story, but there’s a lot to be gleaned if you’ve been keeping up with Marvel’s endless movies and shows.

After months of waiting, the teaser finally reveals how Wade Wilson will make his way into the MCU, and it looks like both seasons of Loki will be required viewing to understand it. The teaser wastes no time in introducing the TVA, while teasing some cameos from legacy X-Men cast members. Here are the biggest easter eggs you missed in the Deadpool & Wolverine teaser.

Say Hello To The TVA

The first surprise of the teaser, if you weren’t spoiled by set photos, is the appearance of the Time Variance Authority (TVA). The TVA was introduced in the first season of Loki as a secret organization that keeps track of and protects the sacred timeline that is the MCU. Given that Deadpool went through a timeline-hopping spree at the end of Deadpool 2, it looks like the TVA caught wind of it and wants to reign him in. We don’t see Owen Wilson’s Mobius in the teaser, and are instead introduced to a new TVA agent — Paradox, played by Matthew Macfadyen.

Pyro’s Flame On

One surprise that we didn’t expect from the film is the return of Aaron Stanford as John Allerdyce/Pyro. The actor reprises his role after his villainous appearances in X2 and X-Men: The Last Stand. Pyro here looks like he’s the leader of an unnamed organization fighting Deadpool. Whether this is the same Pyro we saw in X-Men: The Last Stand remains to be seen.

Meet Wolverine aka Patch

The first look at Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine is in a blink-and-you-miss-it scene when Deadpool is walking through what looks like a casino. In the comics, Logan made a name for himself as an undercover agent known as Patch. As the name suggests, this version of Wolverine wasn’t known for his yellow-and-blue costume, instead roaming around Madripoor in a white suit wearing an eye patch. We're not sure whether the film’s version of Patch will be sporting the eye patch, and we’re not sure if this casino is set in the same Madripoor that we saw in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier.

The Ruins of 20th Century Fox

Set photos have already ruined this one, but in case you were fortunate enough to not see them, feast your eyes on the ruins of the 20th Century Fox logo. The scene is most likely taking place in the Void, an alternate dimension where “pruned” objects end up. Besides providing some meta-commentary on Disney’s acquisition of Fox, it makes for a pretty crazy backdrop for a set piece. Watching Deadpool fight Wolverine around the Fox logo is itself a great joke, and that’s before the merc opens his mouth to comment on it.

Secret Wars #5

Perhaps the biggest easter egg in the teaser, a Secret Wars comic book can be found lying in the corner in the final shot. It’s no random comic either, it’s the cover of Secret Wars #5 from Jonathan Hickman’s run of the story in 2015. Doctor Doom can be seen on the cover of the comic, perhaps teasing his eventual appearance in a future MCU movie. After all, Marvel Studios is working on Avengers: Secret Wars as the culmination of the Multiverse saga, and Deadpool 3 is paving the way for it.

Deadpool & Wolverine releases on July 26, 2024.
