Naya Rivera's dad reads emotional letter he wrote to her as 1-year anniversary of her passing approaches

Naya Rivera tragically drowned July 8, 2020, in California's Lake Piru after pushing her then-four-year-old son Josey back onto a pontoon boat she had rented for them. Her body was not found until July 13.

The Glee actress died at 33 years old, but her memory is still very much alive for her father, George Rivera, who sat down with Entertainment Tonight's Kevin Frazier as the one-year anniversary of that terrible day approaches.

"She called me up when she was on the boat, and she was looking for a place to dock," he revealed, later adding that he has questions about how this accident could have happened because she grew up in a "boating family" full of "avid swimmers."

The father of three also discussed how now-five-year-old Josey is "really strong," praising Naya's ex-husband Ryan Dorsey for "the father that he's become" and stating that he has "just recently" begun looking at pictures of his daughter again, before reading aloud a letter he penned for her:
