Post Malone crushes cover of Sturgill Simpson at Matthew McConaughey-led 'We're Texas' benefit

Matthew McConaughey and his wife, Camila Alves, have raised over $256,000 in relief so far for Texans suffering from last month's historic winter storm through their "We're Texas: Giddy Up To Give Back" virtual benefit concert that aired Sunday night on YouTube.

The event began with a monologue that only McConaughey could deliver before he was intermittently joined by an all-star lineup of Texas-bred musicians:

Among them was Post Malone, who moved with his family to Texas at 10 years old after his father accepted a job with the Dallas Cowboys. The 25-year-old tattooed supernova used this cause to showcase his musical range, as he covered Grammy-winning country singer-songwriters Brad Paisley ("I'm Gonna Miss Her") and Sturgill Simpson ("You Can Have The Crown") to close the show:

Malone—born, as McConaughey introduced him, Austin Richard Post—appeared right at home, casually dragging on a cigarette between verses, even though these songs are a far cry from the hip-hop/rap he is adored for. The "Rockstar" artist also took the stage at the 63rd Grammy Awards earlier this month to deliver a goth-infused version of "Hollywood's Bleeding."
