Although this is the first year the MTV Movie Awards will feature television categories, we’d like to stick with the film side for this slideshow. In all, 21 films have earned nominations, with some earning only a single nod, and others amassing as many as seven. To give you an idea of how the critical acclaim stacks up against the MTV nominations, we’ve ranked every film by its score on Rotten Tomatoes.
If you’re unaware, Rotten Tomatoes compiles its “freshness” score based on the reviews of various critics, most of whom are members of writing guilds, film critic associations or major media outlets. It also gives an overall “audience score” based on user reviews, but we’ll only mention that ranking if it’s especially relevant. To see how each film fares in the end, be sure to tune in to the 2017 MTV Movie & TV Awards on Sunday, May 7!
