Ryan Reynolds shares why he's taking a break from acting

Ryan Reynolds has been everywhere in 2021.

The 45-year-old reprised his role of Michael Bryce for June's sequel "Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard," and then he finally got to release "Free Guy" into the world by August. (Reynolds' titular "Free Guy" character became Justin Bieber's Halloween costume.)

This month, Netflix will begin streaming "Red Notice," an action comedy also billing Gal Gadot and Dwayne Johnson, and Reynolds recently wrapped filming on "Spirited," a modern Charles Dickens holiday musical he will star in opposite Will Ferrell and Octavia Spencer.

In other words, Ryan Reynolds has been everywhere but home.

"I'm just trying to create a little bit more space for my family and time with them," Reynolds told The Hollywood Reporter at the Wall Street Journal Magazine Innovator Awards this week. "You know, you don't really get that time back."

The Canadian actor added that he plans to "be away from film, or at least shooting films, till the end of the summer" because "it just provides me an opportunity to be home."

Reynolds previously announced his plans to take "a little sabbatical" in mid-October, when posting photos after "Spirited" wrapped.

Reynolds and his wife, actress Blake Lively, have three daughters — James, 6, Inez, 5, and Betty, 2 — and were married in 2012.
