Taika Waititi says ‘Thor: Love and Thunder' is 'crazier' and 'very different' than 'Ragnarok'

If you feel hyped for Thor: Love and Thunder, then there isn't a strong enough word for how director Taika Waititi is feeling about the forthcoming fourth installment in Thor's saga.

"Well, just between (me and) you and the readers, I've done some crazy s—t in my life," Waititi told Empire Magazine. "I've lived, like, 10 lifetimes. But it’s the craziest film I’ve ever done. If you wrote down all the elements of this film, it shouldn't make sense. It's almost like it shouldn't be made. If you walked into a room and said, 'I want this and this and this.' Who's in it? These people. What are you going to call it? Love And Thunder. I mean, you'd never work again. Maybe I won’t after this."

This will be the Oscar-winning filmmaker's second time directing a Thor film, the first being 2017's Ragnarok.

"It's very different from Ragnarok," Waititi added of Love and Thunder. "It's crazier. I'll tell you what’s different. There'll be far more emotion in this film. And a lot more love. And a lot more thunder. And a lot more Thor, if you’ve seen the photos."

Chris Hemsworth, who has played the titular hammer-wielding god since 2011, confirmed filming of Love and Thunder had wrapped with an Instagram photo posted June 1. The 37-year-old's caption painted a similar sentiment as Waititi's comments to Empire:

Hemsworth will star alongside the likes of Natalie Portman (as Jane Foster), Chris Pratt (Peter Quill/Star-Lord), Christian Bale (Gorr the God Butcher), Russell Crowe (Zeus), Melissa McCarthy, Matt Damon, Tessa Thompson, and more.

The Marvel Studios production is slated for a May 2022 release.
