The best movies to celebrate 4/20 with

Every year on April 20, the world has to be blunt about one thing: movies. Films meant for kicking back with a couple of friends offer nothing but hilarity. Movies that audiences can lose themselves in because the plots are downright reckless. From oversized sharks and superheroes to ones that are just plain dope, these are the best movies to spend a wonderful 4/20 with.

‘Dude, Where's My Car?’

‘Dude, Where's My Car?’
20th Century Fox

It takes real skill to perfectly portray a couple of dimwits. In 2000, Ashton Kutcher and Sean William Scott did just that in Dude, Where’s My Car? The story centers around two guys who can’t remember where their car is. From that point, they embark on a wild ride that includes saving the world.

‘Kingsman: The Secret Service’

‘Kingsman: The Secret Service’
20th Century Fox

Everything from the beautifully choreographed fight scenes to the over-the-top villain with a speech impediment makes this a movie fit for a day dedicated to relaxing with herbal remedies.

‘The Belko Experiment’

‘The Belko Experiment’
Orion Pictures

Horror is not the best genre to watch on 4/20 because some movies can lean toward being too scary, and no one wants a panic attack. However, The Belko Experiment magically intertwines the nightmare of the corporate world with comedy so seamlessly for a lovely balance.

‘Up in Smoke’

‘Up in Smoke’
Paramount Pictures

Cheech and Chong are so integrated into the culture of 4/20 that not watching Up in Smoke on that day would feel illegal.

‘Thor: Ragnarok’

‘Thor: Ragnarok’
Marvel Studios

A lot of superhero movies can feel a little vanilla, a little too family-friendly, but writer/director Taika Waititi managed to make this installment of Thor as kooky as could be, and for that, 4/20 enthusiasts are forever grateful.

‘21 Jump Street’

‘21 Jump Street’
Columbia Pictures

This is one of the very few movies featuring cops that is appropriate for this day.

7 of 20

‘Paul’

‘Paul’
Universal Pictures

If there is one thing Paul is going to do, it’s entertain and send people on a three-hour-long conversational journey about the existence of aliens. Who doesn’t want that?

8 of 20

‘Little Nicky’

‘Little Nicky’
New Line Cinema

Adam Sandler has a lot of movies that could be on this list, but none of them quite serve the same level of ridiculousness as the story of the devil’s sweet-natured son who winds up on Earth and loves Popeye’s.

‘Girls Trip’

‘Girls Trip’
Universal Pictures

While Girls Trip does have some more serious moments, overall, it leans more towards the side-splitting comedy side of things, mostly in part due to Tiffany Haddish’s Dina.

‘Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back’

‘Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back’
Miramax Films

April 20 wouldn’t quite be the same without a little Jay and his hetero-life-mate, Silent Bob.

'American Ultra’

'American Ultra’
Lionsgate

Another great aspect of a 4/20 movie is the unexpected, and American Ultra has just that with a little plot twist when it comes to Jesse Eisenberg and Kristen Stewart’s relationship.

12 of 20

‘The Meg’

‘The Meg’
Warner Bros. Pictures

Jason Statham physically fights a giant shark — if that doesn’t entice people, not sure what will.

13 of 20

‘Pineapple Express’

‘Pineapple Express’
Columbia Pictures

Seth Rogen and James Franco cemented themselves as the millennials' answer to Cheech and Chong when they dropped Pineapple Express in 2008, and since then, it’s been a staple every April.

‘Impractical Jokers: The Movie’

‘Impractical Jokers: The Movie’
WarnerMedia

Many have fallen prey to an Impractical Jokers marathon, and that’s not a bad thing. However, the movie takes the show to a new level because, with a bigger budget, the guys could go insane with the punishments. The tiger in the hotel room. That’s all that needs to be said.

15 of 20

‘Venom’

‘Venom’
Columbia Pictures

Watching Venom on 4/20 takes it from a run-of-the-mill comic book movie to a Bromance Comedy featuring a man and his symbiote, and that will bring audiences nothing but laughs.

16 of 20

‘Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure’

‘Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure’
Orion Pictures

Utterly ‘80s, time travel, and Keanu Reeves. It’s a trifecta that hasn’t stopped making audiences go to their happy places since 1989.

17 of 20

‘Grandma's Boy’

‘Grandma's Boy’
20th Century Fox

The studio told Nick Swardson to make a movie, but he must’ve heard, “Make stoner gold,” because that’s what he did.

18 of 20

‘Game Over, Man!’

‘Game Over, Man!’
Netflix

Action, comedy, and full-frontal from one of their leading men. Nothing less would be expected from the minds that brought Workaholics to the small screen.

19 of 20

‘Friday’

‘Friday’
New Line Cinema

Who would’ve guessed owing a couple of hundred dollars would put a pair of best friends in such a predicament? Stressful for Craig and Smokey but enjoyable for all who watch.

‘Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar’

‘Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar’
Lionsgate

Kristen Wiig and Annie Mumolo penned the 2011 hit Bridesmaids together, and audiences could even catch Mumolo in the movie as the nervous woman on the plane. A decade later, the pair came together again for a movie that took the comedy of their first movie and twisted it into something incredibly weird but in the best way possible.
