The third installment of 'A Quiet Place' is due March 2023

A Quiet Place: Part II hadn't yet been in theaters for one week when Paramount circled March 31, 2023, as the release date for the franchise's third film, according to Variety on June 4.

"Mud” director Jeff Nichols will take over from John Krasinki as helmer, with a story based on an idea by Krasinski," Variety's Pat Saperstein wrote. "Nichols handed in the script for the new installment, which is more of a spinoff than a threequel, just days ago, Krasinski told Rotten Tomatoes’ Erik Davis. Michael Bay, Andrew Form, Brad Fuller and Krasinski are producing, with Allyson Seeger executive producing."

Krasinski has been essential to A Quiet Place since its April 2018 debut. The 41-year-old directed and co-wrote the first film, then repeated as director while writing Part II. The Office alum also co-stars in both installments opposite Emily Blunt, his wife both on- and off-screen.

The story began with the Abbotts adapting to a post-apocalyptic world overrun by monsters who feast on humans based upon their ultra-sensitive hearing ability, which forces everyone to live both in silence and fear. Part II found Evelyn Abbott (Blunt), now without husband Lee (Krasinski) and son Beau (Dean Woodward), venturing into the outside world with her remaining children.

A Quiet Place: Part II was initially slated for a March 2020 release, but that was postponed (and delayed several times afterward) due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Krasinski had been adamant against a streaming release because he felt that the horrifying thriller was meant to be seen in theaters.

Part II finally did hit theaters May 28, and it was well worth the wait:

The third Quiet Place movie, as well as Nichols' involvement, was first reported by Deadline last November.
