Tom Holland is ready to shift focus from acting to 'starting a family': 'I can't wait to be a dad'

Tom Holland is already a hero to millions of kids (and adults) around the world because he has portrayed Spider-Man/Peter Parker since 2016, but the 25-year-old actor is thinking about becoming a role model to his own children.

"I've spent the last six years being so focused on my career," Holland told People. "I want to take a break and focus on starting a family and figuring out what I want to do outside of this world.

"I love kids. I can't wait to be a dad—I can wait and I will, but I can't wait! If I'm at a wedding or a party, I'm always at the kids' table hanging out. My dad's been such a great role model for me. I think I've got that from him. So I think I'd be a primary school teacher or something like that."

But acting did work out for Holland, and the third installment in director Jon Watts' Spider-Man trilogy Spider-Man: No Way Home is in theaters Friday (Dec. 17) and expected to earn at least $290 million in its opening weekend. It is also the last film in Holland's Spider-Man contract, and he remains torn over whether to leave Peter Parker behind.

"I've loved every minute of it," he said with People. "I've been so grateful to Marvel and Sony for giving us the opportunity and keeping us on and allowing our characters to progress. It's been amazing. And that's why for me, I don't want to say goodbye to Spider-Man—but I feel like we might be ready to say goodbye to Spider-Man.

"I don't want to be responsible for holding back the next young person that comes in who deserves it just as much so," he added, noting he would like to "see something different" and someone more diverse step into the role next.

Holland expressed very similar sentiments for his GQ "Man of the Year" cover story last month: "I’d be very content with just being a stay-at-home dad, and producing a film here and there. I might start shooting The Crowded Room and go, ‘You know what, this is what I’m going to do for the rest of my life.’ Or I might do Spider-Man 4, 5 and 6, finish when I’m 32, and never make another. I’m not sure what I want to do."

Spider-Man producer Amy Pascal teased last month that Sony is "getting ready to make the next Spider-Man movie with Tom Holland and Marvel," while Holland confirmed himself earlier this month that he will be portraying Fred Astaire in forthcoming Sony biopic.
