Watch: Pete Davidson attempts to play 'Like A Virgin' on an upright bass

Pete Davidson can improvise with the best of them, but the 27-year-old actor and comedian never claimed to know his way around the upright bass.

Davidson stopped by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon  and indulged in the "Random Instrument Challenge." The game pitted Davidson and Fallon against each other, trying to play randomly selected songs using the instrument drawn out of a hat by The Roots' Black Thought:

Fallon started things off with Miley Cyrus's "Party In The U.S.A." The Roots could not discern what the four-time Emmy winner was floundering to play, but they were able to correctly guess his go at Cardi B's "Up." Davidson then improvised Madonna's iconic "Like A Virgin," which he said was "something I thought I'd never have to do in my life." The Roots guessed "Toxic" by Britney Spears. "We're in the realm!" the Saturday Night Live cast member said proudly.

Davidson also stuck around to discuss the workout advice he jokingly once gave to Alec Baldwin on the set of SNL, the excitement he has around New York City legalizing weed—"I think you can see it in my eyes how happy I am"—and the time he told Questlove to hit him for the viral "Rap Roundtable" sketch.

The Staten Island native already made headlines this week for moving out of the house he had famously been sharing with his mother, and he will be making even more noise in the coming months in James Gunn's The Suicide Squad due out this August.

Davidson, who starred in the Judd Apatow-directed The King of Staten Island last summer, has also scored a role in the film adaptation of The Things They Carried.
