Year in review: The ultimate playlist for saying goodbye to 2021

As the world faced another pandemic year, one thing that kept people going is music. After artists had to cancel tours in 2020, this year brought a little hope as concerts, festivals, and listening parties started to come back.

2021 called for artists to finally release the music they held on to since the beginning of the pandemic. While 2020 gave fans the chance to enjoy music in isolation, this year allowed fans to experience music at live events again.

From superstars forming new supergroups, to veteran artists breaking the Internet, to summer song battles—these are the songs that kept people going through another trying year.

A one-hit wonder? Not on Lil Nas X’s watch. He may be a master at trolling on social media, but he’s also a go-getter in proving people wrong. After a number of critics counted him out when he released his 2018 hit “Old Town Road,” Lil Nas X continued to break records, all while doing it his own way. As an ode to the naysayers, he teamed up with Jack Harlow on their hit “Industry Baby." His confidence and boastfulness shine throughout the song, especially as he says, “And this one is for the champions / I ain’t lost since I began, yeah / Funny how you said it was the end, yeah / Then I went did it again, yeah.”
