It doesn’t appear that Akiem Hicks can stay on the field in 2021. On Thursday afternoon, the Chicago Bears announced the defensive tackle landed on the Reserve/COVID-19 list. It’s likely that Hicks will miss the upcoming game against the Seattle Seahawks.

Hicks in 2021

Hicks has played in eight games so far this season. He’s managed 3.6 sacks, matching his entire output in 15 games just a year ago. In his eight contests this year, Hicks played in just over 50% of the defensive snaps. Logging 269 snaps, Hicks’ presence is palpable on the football field.

His future is uncertain in Chicago. Hicks made some comments about saying goodbye to Chicago in a meaningful way. The possibility of losing a player of his caliber after this season is something Bears fans have been contemplating for quite some time.

Reserve/COVID-19 List

At one point over the last week, the Chicago Bears had over a dozen players on the Reserve/COVID-19 list. This accumulated over a number of days that also included a plethora of injuries and the lack of coordinators at practice. Defensive coordinator Sean Desai did return for Monday’s game but the majority of the personnel out are still out. Chicago also got several players back from the COVID list yesterday while losing TE Jesper Horsted.

The Bears travel to Seattle this Sunday and will be without a full squad once again. Akiem Hicks’ Reserve/COVID-19 designation only adds injury to the insult that is a depleted 53-man roster.
