Former NBA superstar Dwyane Wade tied the knot with Gabrielle Union back in 2014. The couple has been together ever since. The two are the epitome of relationship goals, but it wasn't always the case for the love birds.

They briefly separated in 2013, but fortunately solved their issues and as we know got married in 2014. While the two might have sorted out the troubles, there was yet another one waiting for them.

Apparently, Gabrielle's family wasn't completely on board with the idea of their daughter marrying Wade. Union's family believed that Wade was only with her for the money and will leave her as soon as he accomplishes that goal.

They had their doubts due to Union's first marriage with NFL player Chris Howard ended for the same reason.

In an interview with Jimmy Kimmel, she was asked the aforementioned question about Wade being only her for money.

"Yes. Because it had happened before. There was some precedent there, otherwise known as my first marriage. Left me a little lighter."

She explained what went wrong in her other marriage as well, "That’s what we were talking about with the first one, too, and then there was a change of fortune. Bring It On hit. It led me to — when it was over, I had to write the check. My family really didn’t like it, because it cut into their budget.”

Union's father, when he met Wade didn't want to repeat the same mistake like last time, "When he first met Dwyane he was like, ‘What are your intentions? What do you want from my daughter?' He's [Wade] is like, ' her love'. But there was a lot of distrust in the beginning."

Luckily, Wade never wanted to marry Union for her fortune, instead, he was in for it for Love.

So the lesson here is that even if you have a bumpy start, it can always get better. That is what happened in the case of Dwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union. The two had a daughter in 2018 via surrogacy and Wade became a proud father of five kids.
