'He Was Fired Up': Maple Leafs React to Having Justin Bieber Behind the Bench for NHL All-Star Game

Justin Bieber entered Scotiabank Arena in style, and with a win as Team Matthews' celebrity captain, he left the arena in style too.

Bieber stood behind the bench for two games and looked as calm as can be while he watched some of his buddies and other NHLers compete for the $1 million prize, which was going to charity.

"He was fired up," Mitch Marner said. "I've hung out with Biebs a couple of times and we play games constantly, and he's playing for keeps constantly. As soon as I knew we were on the same team together, I knew he was going to be telling us that we're winning this thing.

"He was hilarious behind [the bench]. He was trying to keep the boys calm and composed, and he had no worries when we got down in games. So it was good. He was fired up and he wanted to win. He was awesome to have behind the bench."

This wasn't an ordinary outing for Bieber, though. He performed at History for the Maple Leafs and drewhouse party on Thursday night, which was the first time he's done a live performance in over a year.

But the 29-year-old also lived out one of his dreams, which was to take warmups with NHL players.

"I think it was great. I think we really enjoyed it, he obviously really enjoyed it," Matthews said with a glaring smile. "It was just cool to have somebody like him and the other celebrities we had over the weekend come in, and they're so down to earth and engaging with players, staff, people that are around.

"I think it was a cool moment for him to get on the ice and snap it around with some of the fellas. I think everybody really got a kick out of it, honestly."

One of the biggest talking points of the night, was not only just Bieber, but the jacket he wore into the arena and throughout the evening.

"I might have to get one myself," Nylander admitted after the All-Star Game.

"We were loving it," Matthews said with a big smile.

The NHL's top goalscorer added that the players on the bench wanted to see coach Jim Montgomery throw the jacket on for a brief period.

"We were saying that Monty should chuck it on for the second period," he added.

Bieber hasn't been shy to wear flashy jackets to Scotiabank Arena. Back in Dec. 2022, the Canadian music superstar attended a Maple Leafs game wearing a pink jacket with hearts.

Wearing a jacket like that, you'd be able to spot Bieber. That's the same thing Matthews said about his friend following the All-Star Game on Saturday.

"If you were up pretty high in the stands there's no doubt you could pick him out of a crowd easily."
