STARKVILLE, Miss. — The Mississippi State Bulldogs are getting ready to host Georgia Tech in the WBIT on Thursday but got excellent news today. Jerkaila Jordan has announced she will be returning to Starkville for her final season of eligibility.

It was a disappointing season for MSU as they failed to make the NCAA tournament, but Jordan's return gives next year's team a significant boost. The Louisiana native was selected All-SEC second team this year after averaging 16 points and six rebounds a game.

Jordan is often a one-person wrecking crew for the Bulldogs, and on senior night, 5-9 guard scored 18 third-quarter points. She possesses a nice mid-range jumper and can also score off the bounce.

Mississippi State head coach Sam Purcell will likely be very busy in the transfer portal this offseason, but keeping a veteran like Jordan will ease some worries. The former Tulane transfer has quickly become a fan favorite in her time in Starkville.

“The opportunity to wear this jersey will always be special to me,” Jordan said.

Jordan will be expected to be a leader on next year's team, and if the Bulldogs have another successful year in the portal they will be a force in the SEC. It was a disappointing end to the season for MSU, but the strides this program has taken under Purcell is noticeable.

Mississippi State will host Georgia Tech for the first round of the WBIT on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. CT
