Steelers' 4th-Rounder Mason McCormick Is The Nicest Bully Around
Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The Pittsburgh Steelers selected offensive guard Mason McCormick out of South Dakota State with their 119th overall pick in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL Draft. The Steelers approached the in 2024 with an agenda, that being to fix the offensive line once and for all. The Steelers have selected three linemen thus far, including McCormick, Troy Fautanu and Zach Frazier. The Steelers have had one of the worst offensive line units for three seasons now, and Steelers' General Manger Omar Khan along with his sidekick Andy Weidl are ready for that to change.

McCormick, 23, was ranked sixth among guards at the combine in 2024. Coming in at 6'4" and 309 pounds, the former Jackrabbit earned All-American honors and All-Missouri Valley Football conference honors for the fourth time in 2023.

McCormick will be joining a Steelers' unit that already has two solidified starters at both guard spots: James Daniels and Isaac Seumalo. While Seumalo still has both the 2024 and 2025 seasons set under contract, Daniels is entering the 2024 season on his final year.

McCormick will likely remain behind both of these guys on the depth chart, at least for this season, assuming there are no injuries. Still, McCormick will be a great backup and has enough talent to have a bright future with the Steelers.

Between him, Fautanu, Frazier, and also 2023 first-rounder Broderick Jones, the Steelers have a strong core up front. Steelers' offensive line coach Pat Meyer explained that they loved McCormick's mentality and the way he plays on the field. McCormick's attitude up front was also recognized by Steelers' insider Mark Kaboly.

The newest member of the Steelers' family detailed how excited he is to join the organization.

"I am very excited to be a Pittsburgh Steeler. This is definitely a dream come true," McCormick said.

McCormick has preached on the idea of being the meanest player on the field, but being the nicest person off of the field. That should fit right in with the Steel City. The big man was filled with joy after finding out he would be a new member of the black and gold.

The Steelers now have nearly 10 offensive linemen that will be fighting for spots on the 53-man roster in August. Pittsburgh will now likely turn their attention to the defensive side of the ball.

Steelers Have Completed O-Line Mission, Finally

After Khan and the Steelers somehow managed to land two of the top linemen in the draft, the Steelers now have great pieces at each of the five spots up front. With Frazier at center, Seumalo and Daniels at guard, and Jones and Fautanu at tackle, Pittsburgh finally has a line that they can rely on and hopefully can improve the offense. The Steelers nailed the draft in 2023, and so far so good in 2024 once again.

The Steelers plan to run the football in 2024, a lot. In order to do that successfully, obviously they would need a complete o-line.

The Steelers have the chance to have a real threat of an offense in 2024, now that they have all of the right pieces. A strong line, an improved quarterback room, a bunch of talent at the skill positions, and a consistently dominant defense, the Steelers are ready to start winning some playoff games.
