Golf best bets: Long shots to target at the RBC Heritage

The Masters may be over, but the PGA Tour season keeps on chugging this weekend with the RSM Classic from Harbour Town Golf Links. Many of the world's best players will be in Hilton Head for the signature event, but there are also a few enticing long shots deeper down the odds board.

Here are two long shots we're targeting with outright and finishing position bets for the RSM Classic.

Erik Van Rooyen (+12000 FanDuel)

Erik Van Rooyen has been rather impressive from tee to green all season. The South African ranks 13th on the PGA Tour in ball striking, which combines total driving and greens in regulation percentage into one metric. That just means Van Rooyen has been deadly accurate off the tee and with his irons, and that's the only way to have success on a tight, positional golf course like Harbour Town. In three career starts at the RBC Heritage, he already has a T21 and a T10.

Van Rooyen finished T55 at The Masters last week, but he did shoot a 1-under 71 on Thursday before falling victim to the high winds in the following rounds. The only worry here is Van Rooyen's short game, which has been a weakness for him this year. As long as he doesn't bleed strokes with his chipping, he should be in store for a strong week.

Top-20 finish: +300
Top-30 finish: +140

Adam Svensson (+20000 BetMGM)

Harbour Town is a venue made for short-course specialists, and Adam Svensson definitely qualifies. The Canadian doesn't normally fare well on longer courses because of his lack of distance off the tee, but he drives it straight and hits his mid-irons well. That statistical profile has led to strong finishes at comp courses such as TPC Summerlin, Sedgefield Country Club and TPC Deere Run. Svensson's lone PGA Tour victory came at Sea Island Golf Club in Georgia, a 7,000-yard course located just two hours from Harbour Town on the same coastline.

Svensson hasn't recorded a top-40 finish in his last six starts, but this is a perfect venue for him to turn his season around.

Top-20 finish: +330
Top-30 finish: +150
