Aaron Bummer has been a mainstay in the Chicago White Sox' bullpen since 2017. The Sox selected him in the 19th round of the 2014 MLB Draft. The 28-year-old saw limited action in 2022 after missing three months of the season due to a left lat strain. He returned from the 60-day injured list and made an appearance against Seattle on Sept. 7.

The 2022 Season

Bummer got off to a tough start but allowed a walk and no earned runs in his final 10 innings before landing on the IL. After returning, he allowed just one earned run but struggled to hold inherited runners.

The veteran lowered his ERA from 3.06 to 2.36 in just nine innings since coming back from his injury. Overall, the Sox' hurler struck out 30 batters in 26.2 innings.

Bummer doesn't always inspire a lot of confidence when entering a game. He is a streaky reliever who typically needs a clean inning to be at his best. The next White Sox' manager should think twice before using him with runners on.

Final Grade: C+

What's On Tap Next?

Aaron Bummer is essentially a lock to return in 2023 unless the Chicago White Sox elect to shake up the bullpen. That seems unlikely as he is one of the very few capable left-handed pitchers the Sox have in their organization. Bummer is under contract through 2024 and team control through 2026.
