Astros Make Sure To Celebrate A Past Title Tuesday
Thomas Shea-USA TODAY Sports

On this day in 2017, the Houston Astros did something that had never been done in their franchise history.

With a 5-1 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers, Houston clinched their first ever World Series title.

It had the makings of a perfect, feel-good story.

It came in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey, which had ravaged the City of Houston in the month of August.

It also marked a first for veteran Carlos Beltran, who had never won a World Series ring before.

Finally, Beltran got a chance to celebrate a World Series title.

On Twitter, the Astros posted a video of the moment they captured the title.

Astros Celebrate Title Anniversary

Of course, as we all know, what had the makings of a perfect feel-good story was ultimately soured when it was learned that the Astros had been illegally stealing signs with the use of technology, banging on trash cans to relay signs to the hitter.

From that moment on, this title has been completely tarnished by what the Astros did in order to claim it.

To this day, fans and players are still seething about it, especially in Los Angeles.

The Los Angeles Dodgers had the best record in baseball that year, and it could be argued that the Astros even stole the ring from them.

For Astros fans, this is a great memory that will never die.

For fans of every other team, it serves as a grim reminder that cheating impacts games and that MLB went light when punishing the Astros for their actions.
