The Houston Astros sent Niko Goodrum on a minor league rehab assignment with the FCL Astros Orange on Saturday. The 40-man-rostered infielder hasn't played for the Sugar Land Space Cowboys since June 1, when he sustained a hamstring injury running to first base.

Goodrum hit .116/.156/.163 in 15 games for the Astros before he was optioned May 15. Signed to a one-year contract this past winter, the 30-year-old was optioned for the first time in his career.

With the Space Cowboys, the switch-hitter slashed a 1.024 OPS over 12 games played. The 40-man roster houses two other minor league infielders — Joe Perez and Taylor Jones — but Goodrum's return to Triple-A adds depth to the middle-infield positions.
