Baltimore Orioles' James McCann Puts Himself in a Class All His Own on Friday Night

The Baltimore Orioles routed the New York Mets on Friday night 10-3.

The best team in the American League moved to 68-42 after the win while the free-falling Mets dropped to 50-59.

The game was close until the sixth inning when the Orioles scored four runs in the sixth and four more in the seventh.

Offensively, the O's were paced by catcher James McCann, who started behind the plate in place of Adley Rutschman.

McCann went 3-for-3 with a run scored and five RBI and he also made some baseball history.

James McCann of the @Orioles is the only MLB catcher to go 3-for-3 (or better) with a walk, a stolen base and 5+ RBI in a game (since RBI became an official stat in 1920).

It was the third stolen base of the year for McCann.

The 33-year-old is in his 10th year in the big leagues with the Tigers, White Sox, Mets and Orioles. He made the All-Star team in 2019 with the White Sox and is a lifetime .242 hitter with 81 career homers.

This year, he's hitting .215 with just three homers. He's struggled to stay healthy the last few years and has played in just 44 games this season.

The O's and Mets will play again on Saturday night. First pitch from Camden Yards is set for 7:05 p.m. ET as Tylor Megill (NYM) pitches against Kyle Gibson (BAL).

Megill is 6-4 this season with a 5.17 ERA while Gibson is 10-6 with a 4.53 ERA.
