Beloved Astros Retired Outfielder Returning to Team

There is a lot of anticipation for the 2024 campaign as the Houston Astros prepare to win the franchise's third World Series championship.

Many of the familiar faces are back, but they will also have Josh Hader closing out games for them, something that is exciting for players on the team and fans everywhere.

The Astros' front office was looking at replacements for newly retired outfielder Michael Brantley during the winter as well after he decided to hang up his cleats for good.

The beloved figure was able to make his return for 15 games in the back half of the regular season and for the playoffs after undergoing surgery to repair a torn labrum in his right shoulder during August 2022.

Brantley was a two-time All-Star during his time in Houston after signing with them in free agency back in 2019.

Known as one of the best guys in the clubhouse, the Astros were facing the daunting task of replacing his presence and production for the upcoming year.

However, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com is reporting they won't have to replace Brantley's presence after all since he agreed to return in some capacity as an assistant.

"I asked him to come back again and put a uni on and spend some time. His presence is very valuable. The guys really ask him to come around and I ask him to come around. I'm happy to have him around," new manager Joe Espada told McTaggart.

This is huge for Houston.

Brantley was one of the best pure hitters on the team and might be able to help players with any of the struggles that they have when in a slump. He'll also be able to mentor some of the younger players that the Astros might have on their roster this year.

What his official role will be in 2024 has not been revealed, but it looks like he'll be around the team a lot during the upcoming season.
